Nikon Coolpix S30, L810, and L26 Lead the CoolPix Budget End

One last set of Coolpix updates from Nikon focuses on the budget end but included a new category of camera for the company. The S30 is one of the least expensive rugged cameras yet and can take going underwater, down to 9.8 feet, or drops of up to 2.6 feet. Its lens shoots at just 3X but is self-contained to minimize the impact.

Details are scant, but the 10-megapixel camera focuses on simple controls while supplying HD (likely 720p) video.

Two L-series cameras join the ranks. The L810 has a 26X (22.5-585mm equivalent) image-stabilized lens, 720p video, and a 921,000-pixel three-inch display that’s unusually detailed for the class. An L26 model has a more modest 5X (26-130mm) lens and the same 720p video, as well as a three-inch LCD that may be lower in resolution.

Each of the three cameras ships in February. Both the L26 and S30 cost a basic $120; the L810’s optics raise the price to $280.
