The Motorola 4Home Connected Gateway first unveiled at CES 2012 in January has inched closer to release after being spotted going through the FCC for testing and certification. The home automation device is designed to allow users to remotely access and control things like house lighting, appliances and even door locks. It will also allow users check on security camera feeds and control a home security system remotely through a smartphone, tablet or PC, including non-Android hardware.

Motorola has designed the system to support multiple home wireless communication standards and protocols, making it widely compatible with a vast range of wireless and connected home third-party solutions. The 4Home Connected Gateway will also tap into a homeowner’s energy management system, program devices, diagnose and fix issues when and if they arise. Users can even use the system to let service providers remotely diagnose and fix issues with set-boxes or modems and routers, for example.

At its heart lies a 1.2GHz processor, highlighting the computational power needed to manage and process multiple incoming and outgoing signals. Motorola has yet to price the box, but its appearance at the FCC suggests that a general release is looming. As can be seen in the photo, the device is carrying Verizon branding, indicative of its release as part of Verizon’s Z-wave based Home Monitoring and Control system
