Just over two months out from release, Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch have reportedly boarded Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 and will collaborate on the film’s score.

Villeneuve’s longtime composer Johann Johannsson, who was been attached to the gig for nearly a year, is reportedly still involved and is still composing “the main theme as planned” according to the director.

He tells Studio Cine Live  that the others have come on board mainly to help out with the monumental task of trying to live up to Vangelis’ iconic work on the original:

“Given the magnitude of the task, Benjamin Wallfisch and Hans Zimmer joined the team to help Johann. It’s hard to [follow original ‘Blade Runner’ composer] Vangelis! We had some astonishing atmospheric [pieces] by Johann, but I needed other options, and Hans helped us.”

Zimmer and Wallfisch previously collaborated on “Hidden Figures. Zimmer of course is Christopher Nolan’s go to composer for everything from The Dark Knight to Inception. Wallfisch has made a name in horror mostly with A Cure for Wellness and  scores for the up coming movies Annabelle Creation and IT.

Blade Runner 2049 opens on October 6th.
