A long-awaited download aimed at addressing the ending of the role-playing epic Mass Effect 3 will launch next Tuesday for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

According to a post on the blog for studio BioWare, the download title Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will expand upon the game’s controversial finish “through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes.”

The download is free to all players until April 12, 2014.

“Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans, and we are responding,” says BioWare co-founder and general manager Dr. Ray Muzyka in a statement announcing the DLC in April. “With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”

Uproar over the game started not long after its March release with players criticizing its final moments. Without spoiling what happens, Mass Effect 3 seems to leave a lot of questions unanswered, including the fates of several characters.

“It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings,” says a statement from BioWare on the Extended Cut download.
