minecraft-story-modeMinecraft has been a runaway success since it debuted in early 2009, but despite being on nearly every single platform under the sun, Nintendo fans have been left out in the cold. That’s likely to continue as Mojang was sold to Microsoft. Despite that, Wii U owners will get a small taste of the Minecraft experience thanks to Telltale Games.

Telltale Games is well-known for creating adventure games from popular franchises, including The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Jurassic Park, and Back to the Future. One of the games under their umbrella is Minecraft: Story Mode, which seeks to recreate the adventurous aspect of Minecraft in a completely different setting. The game coming to the Wii U was revealed today, as previously the game was only announced for non-Nintendo platforms.

Telltale has also revealed to The Verge that the game will be coming to the Wii U as well, marking the first time a Minecraft game launches on a Nintendo platform. One of the goals is to reach outside of the Minecraft fandom, and introduce new people to the franchise. But with an existing audience of 70 million, Telltale also knows that keeping them satisfied is the most important thing.

Currently there’s no release date set for Minecraft: Story Mode, but the developers have revealed that they hope to have the first episode of the adventure out by the end of this year.
