Owners of some GoPro cameras are now able to broadcast a live stream online, after Meerkat added support for the imaging devices. Announced at VidCon this week, GoPro Hero3 cameras can now be connected to the app running on a nearby smartphone or tablet over Wi-Fi, giving Meerkat users an alternative way to capture footage to stream to their followers over the Internet.
So far, the functionality has been added to the iOS version of the app, though there is no word on if it will make the jump over to the Android edition anytime soon. Owners of the GoPro Hero4 range will have to wait, as CNBC reports the app will be expanding to the cameras in the next version

The new camera option is potentially very helpful to Meerkat in its fight against the Twitter-backed Periscope. By using GoPro cameras, it can allow users to broadcast using unusual camera angles while on the move, such as from a car dashboard or from the hood of the car.
GoPro owners will have another mobile app to use with their cameras later this summer. President Tony Bates told TechCrunch it is close to launching a mobile app that can let users quickly perform edits on GoPro footage on their smartphone before sharing it online, instead of downloading the clips to a computer with a full editing suite.
