Mario Kills Tanooki – PETA Just Needs to Get a Life or a Clue

Well the people at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, AKA PETA, are not fans of Super Mario Bros.

Mario is now a target for PETA, bashing him for his use of the Tanooki suit.

The outfit, modeled after Japanese raccoon dogs called tanuki, allows Mario to float in the sky to collect coins or traverse difficult jumps.

The suit has made a comeback in the recently released Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS.

According to a PETA website titled “Mario Kills Tanooki,” the character’s outfit “is sending the message that it’s OK to wear fur.” Apparently there is a kind of slippery slope, from being a digital construct that wears a picture of fur right down to killing a cat and wearing it on your head.

The site also features a game called Super Tanooki Skin 2D, where players chase Mario — who flies around wearing a blood-soaked Tanooki suit — while a skinless animal chases him down.

PETA , all we can say here at TOT,is  get a life.  There are real animal protection issue you could be fighting and helping people understand than getting upset over a video game. If you need help understanding a video game costume isn’t real life,  e-mail us and we will help you get the help you need from an MHP.   Mario is doing nothing more that what tons of little kids do at Halloween, dress up like an animal in fake fur. Heck his isn’t even made of physical fake fur but pixels.
