While the Mary Queen of Scots film has still not received the green light, Variety reports that Margot Robbie is planning to join Saoirse Ronan in the upcoming Focus Features and Working Title film production in the part of Queen Elizabeth.

Crowned Queen of Scotland when she was less than a year old, the 16th century leader was, later in life, forced to abdicate her throne and soon thereafter was executed at age 18 for her alleged involvement with an assassination attempt on the life of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, whose life story was told in Hirst’s screenplays for Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age. In the latter film, Mary herself was played by Samantha Morton.

Originally scripted by Michael Hirst, Mary Queen of Scots will be directed by Josie Rourke. Working Title’s Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Liza Chasin are producing.

Margot Robbie had a busy 2016, starring on the big screen in Glenn Ficarra and John Requa’s Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, David Yates’ The Legend of Tarzan and in David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad. She’s tentatively set to reprise the Harley Quinn role in Ayer’s upcoming Gotham City Sirens. Meanwhile, the actress is set to star opposite Sebastian Stan in the Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya, Sony’s Beatrix Potter adaption, Peter Rabbit and Marian, an upcoming Sony Pictures film based on the legend of Robin Hood.
