Mac Pro Pricing and Availability Announced – $2,999 in December

Phil Schiller took time during today’s presentation to provide new information on the updated Mac Pro. We now know that the Mac Pro will start at $2999 for the basic configuration, which features a 3.7GHz quad-core Xeon processor, 12GB of DRAM and dual FirePro D300 GPUs, and will begin shipping this December.

First shown at this year’s WWDC in San Francisco, the Mac Pro features a unique new “canister” form factor and is based on new Intel Xeon processors. Expanding on the base configuration, customers will also be able to expand the DRAM up to 64GB while the SSD tops out at 1TB, however, pricing information for these upgrades has yet to be announced. Connectivity wise the 2013 Mac Pro will feature three USB 3 ports, six of the new Thunderbolt 2 ports, a 2GB Ethernet port, HDMI, and 802.11ac networking capabilities.

In addition to announcing pricing and availability, Apple also announced that new versions of both Final Cut Pro and Aperture that support 4k resolutions and other feature unique to the new Mac Pro are currently in the works.
