Logitech will shortly begin shipping a long awaited successor to its popular MX518 gaming mouse. Branded the G400, the new mouse keeps the same shape as the MX518 while enhancing performance. As with the MX518, the G400 is equipped with an optical sensor as opposed to a laser.

Originally released in 2005, the Logitech MX518 has become the company’s most popular gaming mouse ever. With the G400, Logitech hopes to repeat that success. The sensor, still optical, has been upgraded from 1,800DPI to 3,600DPI. To reduce any lag between hand movement and what’s seen on screen, the report rate has been improved from 125 to 1,000 reports per second.

Logitech has updated the optional button programming software so that the mouse can synchronize with Logitech’s G-series gaming keyboards.

The G400 will retail for $50. It will be available in the US starting June 19. It will be available outside the US in mid-July.
