Lenovo has launched two new smartphones at IFA: the Vibe X2 and Vibe Z2. Selfies and selfie phones seem to become increasingly more popular lately. Lenovo has picked up on this trend and has put two selfie-worthy cameras on both of them, a 5MP on the Vibe X2 and an 8MP camera on the Vibe Z2.

The Vibe X2 seems to be oriented towards the more fashion-focused crowd, with a very slim 7.27 mm body that weighs only 120g. It also comes with a 5” screen with a 1080p resolution, 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM and a 13MP camera on the back. The phone is powered by a Mediatek “True8Core” chip, which is based on eight Cortex A7 CPU cores and a PowerVR G600 GPU.

The Vibe Z2 is a bigger phone, with a 5.5” screen, but it comes with a lower resolution of 720p. It also has a 13MP camera on the back with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). It also comes with 32GB of storage and 2GB of RAM, just like the Vibe X2.

The phone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor. Snapdragon 410 is a 64-bit chip (based on the next-gen ARMv8 instruction set that has four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.4 Ghz) and an Adreno 306 GPU. Cortex A53 is also the direct successor to the Cortex A7, so it should be more future-proof and higher-performance, too. Both of these phones will come with Android 4.4 KitKat.

Unlike the Vibe X2, the Z2 is a little heavier at 158grams, but fortunately it’s not much thicker at just 7.8 mm. Having a thicker body and larger size also allows it to fit a bigger 3,000 mAh battery inside. Such a larger battery combined with a lower 720p display resolution and a more advanced processor should give it significantly better battery life, too.

The ARMv8-based Cortex A53-based processor, 13MP rear camera, 8MP selfie camera and its 5.5” size make the Vibe Z2 a direct competitor to the just-announced HTC Desire 820, which comes with very similar specs.

The Lenovo Vibe Z2 will be $429, while the Vibe X2 will come in a bit cheaper at $399. Both will be available in China in October, and later in other parts of Asia, Middle East and Eastern Europe.
