Deadline brings word today that Legendary TV has partnered up with Cyan Worlds to develop both a TV series and companion video game to the popular title Myst.

“Cyan’s goal in working with Legendary is not just to create a compelling TV drama but to develop a true transmedia product that will include a companion video game that extends the story across both media,” the company said. “Seventy percent of tablet owners use their device while watching TV at least several times a week. Cyan sees the potential to push the boundaries of interactive storytelling to a new level.”

Since debuting back in 1993, Myst has been followed by the release of countless sequels and ports of the original title. A point-and-click adventure, Myst sees players a lone on a mysterious island, where they must venture out to explore its grandeur and mystery. Described as “a chilling tale of intrigue and injustice, defying all boundaries of space and time,” the first game in the series has sold over 8 million copies.

This isn’t the first time an attempt has been made to adapt Myst either as the Sci-Fi Channel previously announced plans for a TV miniseries in 2002, though that never came to fruition.
