The Kindle library book lending has now gone live, with Amazon now making the official announcment. It had been in beta in the Seattle area. Those with Kindle readers or Kindle apps can borrow e-books from more than 11,000 local libraries throughout the US. The system fully supports the Whispersync feature that will synchronize margin notes, highlights and bookmarks on its own, as well as assign real page number and integrate with Facebook and Twitter, among others.
The system will let users select books to check out from their local participating library’s website thanks to a Send to Kindle button. They will then need to log into their Amazon account, and the e-book will be sent to the Kindle over Wi-Fi or USB.
All Kindle generations are supported, as are the free Kindle apps for iOS, Android, PC, Mac, BlackBerry or Windows Phone devices or their web browser.
