New York premiere of 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2'

Kevin James is set to take the lead role in Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures‘ 44 movie. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that the Pixels star will play Joey Williams, a middle aged man who went to college specifically to play college football. Heaven is for Real scribe Christopher Parker will provide the 44 movie screenplay.

“I was recruited out of high school to play football at Tennessee Tech,” Williams told The United Methodist Church in a 2003 interview, “but I injured my left knee my senior season. The play was already over when somebody hit me, folding my knee right down to the ground. By the time I trotted off the field, my kneecap was around to the side… Basically, I chickened out. But I’ve regretted it ever since. All through the years, I’ve thought, ‘What if?’”

In 2002, Williams began the process of getting into shape to enroll in Jackson, Tennessee’s Lambuth University and soon found a place on their team. His path to fulfill his lifelong dream would take him to some surprising places, including having to face off against his college aged son on the field. As you can read about his official site, Williams credits his success to his faith in God.

The 44 movie will be produced by James himself alongside Todd Garner, Lisa Kors and DeVon Franklin, responsible for previous faith based dramas Heaven Is For Real and the now in theaters Miracles From Heaven.

Kevin James, who last year also lent his voice to Hotel Transylvania 2, can soon be seen on Netflix‘s The True Memoirs of an International Assassin.
