Kate Snow, a national correspondent for NBC News with experience at ABC and CNN, was named the anchor of the Sunday edition of “NBC Nightly News,” a maneuver that appears to elevate her standing with the network and to put her in line for bigger duties down the road. kate-snowAs part of her new duties, Snow will also anchor two hours during weekdays on MSNBC, a development that will further align NBC News and the cable outlet as the two are made more of a whole under direction from NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack.

“Kate is a compassionate storyteller who approaches every assignment with equal parts determination and heart,” said Deborah Turness, President of NBC News, in a statement. “Her broad range as a journalist, skill as an anchor, and familiarity with our audience is sure to lead ‘Nightly’ to continued success on Sundays.”

Snow has frequently served as a fill-in anchor for “Nightly News” and NBC’s “Today.” Prior to joining NBC News in 2010, she was the anchor of the weekend edition of ABC’s “Good Morning America” for six years. She also worked as a White House Correspondent for ABC News and a Congressional Correspondent for CNN.

The anchor chair on Sundays had previously been filled on a regular basis by Lester Holt, who was named the full time anchor of “NBC Nightly News” in June.
