Justice Dept. Wants Senior Judge to Weigh New York iPhone Case

DOJ LogoThe U.S. Department of Justice resubmitted a case against Apple after a magistrate judge recently sided with Apple. The Justice Department wants a higher-ranking judge to consider the issue.

TRhis case involves a suspected drug offender in New York. The magistrate judge said Apple shouldn’t be compelled to unlock the iPhone.

This is a separate, yet similar, matter to the one being argued in California over the San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone. Apple argues in both cases that giving the FBI the tools in needs to unlock these iPhones imperils the safety of all iPhone users
