In addition to writing “The Flash” as part of DC’s upcoming Rebirth initiative, writer Joshua Williamson will launch a new miniseries through Vertigo, all of which is part of his new exclusive agreement with the publisher.
Williamson will collaborate with artist Jason Shawn Alexander on a new miniseries for Vertigo titled “Frostbite.” “Frostbite” will follow human trafficker Keaton, a South American woman, as she tries to do her job while navigating the new ice age that the Earth has been plunged into. In addition to that, a deadly disease called Frostbite has broken out, freezing the moisture in people’s cells — Keaton’s tasked with shepherding the scientists that may hold the cure to their lab on Alcatraz.
Williamson, whose creator-owned work includes “Birthright” and “Nailbiter,” spoke about his new deal with DC in a press release. “For a comic book writer, this is a dream come true,” said Williamson. “There aren’t too many people that get the chance to not only write The Flash, one of my all-time favorite characters, but also work with Vertigo; a publisher that’s been a huge influence on my writing style. DC Comics is an important company to me; I’ve loved these characters all my life and an opportunity to add to their mythology is amazing. It’s an honor to be a part of it.”
DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee also praised Williamson in the release, saying, ”Josh is a fantastic writer, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on board. He has a knack for telling stories that really grab hold of readers, and it comes through whether he’s writing epic superhero fiction, or more edgy and darker tales.”
“Frostbite” is the first new series announcement following the Vertigo’s restructuring, which was revealed earlier this month. Williamson and Alexander’s “Frostbite” launches in September.
