Jawbone Shows the UP at TED

Jawbone at TED unveiled its first real device to step outside of the audio sphere. The Up wrist sensor is designed to track movement as well as other areas, such as diet and sleep. A companion mobile app pairs with a smartphone over Bluetooth and both provides a look at data as well as a social sharing component.

Few real details are available, but Jawbone said the social element could be more narrowly focused than the all-or-nothing approach from other health apps and devices. The company’s experience with Bluetooth audio was also expected to help extend the battery life. Its shell should be waterproof and withstand exercise.

The Up is still distant and will ship sometime later this year for an unknown price. Platform support hasn’t been mentioned, although the iPhone is near certain.
