jasonreitmanhuluIn the wake of both critical and commercial failure of his last two movies (Labor Day and Men, Women & Children), Jason Reitman is taking the big leap into the TV realm as he teams with Hulu for “Casual,” a ten episode straight-to-series order for the streaming service.

“Casual” is described as “a single-camera, half-hour comedy series that follows the story of a dysfunctional family with a bachelor brother and his newly divorced sister. Together, they coach each other through the crazy world of dating (on-line and off), while living under one roof again and raising a teenager.”

Reitman, Oscar-nominated for his films Juno and Up in the Air, will helm the first episode of “Casual” and serve as executive producer alongside his production partner Helen Estabrook and series writer Zander Lehmann.

“I’ve long looked for the right first step into episodic storytelling,” said Reitman. “In Zander Lehmann, I have found the perfect collaborator. His writing is hilarious and provocative.”

Besides “Casual,” Hulu also has the event miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s “11/22/63” with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions in production.
