Coogan and BrydonIFC Films has landed US rights to Michael Winterbottom’s “The Trip to Italy,” a follow-up to 2010 hit “The Trip,” starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. Coogan and Brydon are reteaming for this new film, which is currently in production in Italy. No word yet on whether there will be any Michael Caine imitation face-offs.

Here’s a more in-depth synopsis:

THE TRIP TO ITALY, a semi-fictional improvised tour of Italy, reunites Rob and Steve (Brydon and Coogan).  Rob has been commissioned by a newspaper to go on a driving tour of Italy from Liguria to Capri, partly following in the footsteps of the great Romantic poets. He asks his old friend Steve to go with him. As they journey through the beautiful Italian countryside, they talk about life, relationships and their careers.

The films are based on the BBC series of the same name.

Coogan also stars in Winterbottom’s “The Look of Love,” which premiered at Sundance, and centers on the life of Brit billionaire pornographer Paul Raymond; no word yet on a stateside release.
