Hulu Inks with Streaming Deal with Miramax

Hulu gave a major boost to its movie library by adding Miramax titles to its lineup. The multi-year deal lets at least Hulu Plus viewers immediately see movies like Clerks, Pulp Fiction, and Trainspotting in HD when a device supports it. Free Hulu users will get to see a handful of rotating movies starting from mid-June, albeit with ads.

The Plus service costs $8 per month and also factors in the full catalog of TV shows. Just 27 Miramax movies are available to start, but more are expected to roll out over time.

Hulu has already had hundreds of movies but has mostly been focusing on very old, classic, or foreign movies. The Miramax deal gives it a newer catalog and more variety than the primarily TV-driven streaming service has had in the past.

Miramax has been pushing for multiple such deals and just recently got support from Netflix and Google. The recently bought-out studio has been eager to get exposure and revenue for its legacy content while in the middle of a corporate reboot that has temporarily frozen its movie making business.
