High Dynamic Range TVs are expected to be hitting the global TV market quite soon, and according to IHS Inc., they will see a healthy growth in their first few years on the market. IHS forecasts that unit shipments of HDR TVs globally will grow from 2.9 million in 2016 to 32.6 million in 2019.

In its ‘Quarterly TV Design and Features Report,’ IHS expects the HDR market to really pick-up in 2017, in large part due to the Chinese and Japanese markets. “As with other new technologies, we expect that the Chinese consumer will be in the forefront of adoption,” said Paul Gray, principal analyst for IHS.

“While HDR is expected to make up the largest share of UHD TV sets in the Japanese market, due to that country’s lead in broadcast UHD services.”

IHS’ prediction only covers HDR sets that meet the UHD Alliance’s acceptance criteria.

The ‘Quarterly TV Design and Features Report’ tracks all 4K UHD TV product ranges, forecasts, video processing, and broadcasting. The full report can be found here.
