JK RowlingAuthor J.K. Rowling is bringing her bestseller “The Casual Vacancy,” her first novel following the “Harry Potter” series, to HBO and the BBC for a three-hour miniseries.

The book centers on a seemingly quaint and bucolic English village, where in fact a number of simmering tensions are about to reach lid-blowing proportions — the wealthy vs. the poor, teens vs. their parents, schoolteachers vs their students, and more.

Rick Senat and Sarah Phelps (“EastEnders,” BBC’s “Great Expectations”) are set to pen the adaptation, with Johnny Campbell (“Eric & Ernie”) directing. Production will begin this summer, with Rowling exec producing.
