HBO is reportedly about to hand out a pilot order for a second prequel to its epic fantasy saga Game of Thrones which was based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin.

The new take will be based on Martin’s ‘history’ book Fire and Blood and is set three centuries before the events of GOT, tracking the “beginning of the end for House Targaryen”.

The book starts off with Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold the throne, all the way up to the civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons, that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Martin and Colony co-creator Ryan Condal created the series and Condal is writing the show said to be a “brand new take on a world originally tackled by Bryan Cogman in one of the five ‘Thrones’ prequel scripts commissioned by HBO in 2017”

The order follows on from the first prequel series which shot a pilot this Summer and is now in post-production awaiting word on a series pickup order. That Jane Goldman-penned series is set millennia before the events of ‘Thrones’ and chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.
