Harman International Industries has unveiled two audio/video receivers — the Harman Kardon AVR 700 and AVR 1700. Both feature the brand’s classic styling and sound reproduction for consumers who want to start or upgrade a home entertainment center. To accommodate the latest high-definition audio and video sources, each is equipped with multiple HDMI inputs, with full 3D compatibility and high-resolution Dolby and DTS audio format decoding.

The Harman Kardon AVR 700 delivers 5.1-channel surround and 75 watts per channel. Along with three HDMI inputs with 3D, Deep Color, CEC and Audio Return Channel and legacy audio/video inputs, the AVR 700 also has a front-panel USB port for direct playback of music files. The AVR handles high-resolution Dolby and DTS audio formats to ensure the best possible sound from music sources, video game systems or 3D and high-definition movies. The AVR 700 is available now at a retail price of $299.

A range of features adds direct connection of Apple products by way of the front-panel USB jack for audio playback and charging, Apple AirPlay wireless capability and DLNA 1.5-certified connectivity allows for streaming audio from portable devices and files stored on a home network.

The network connectivity also allows the the unit to be controlled through a free app for Apple and Android phones and tablets. The AVR 1700 uses a switch-mode power supply to reduce product weight and power consumption for a lower carbon footprint without sacrificing audio quality.

Six HDMI inputs — including 3D, deep color and audio return channel — permit connected devices to benefit from the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. The available audio sources include vTuner Internet radio to play audio from thousands of global radio stations and web broadcasters. The AVR 1700 is housed in the latest version of the Harman Kardon design with exclusive flush volume control. An AVR 1700 can be purchased for $499.
