googlewallet-lg1[1]Google this week released a new version of Google Wallet that can capture, store, and manage gift card info.

Users can add gift cards via the camera or keyboard, then show a barcode on the screen to redeem the card. Select retailers – including AMC, Best Buy, Nike, Sephora, Toys-R-Us, TGI Friday’s, and Whole Foods – have linked their systems with Google Wallet to allow the app to display remaining balances on the virtual gift cards.

The app can also alert the user when they are near one of those locations. The new version of the app also adds Spanish language support and a feature to request money from friends via Gmail.

Download the new version of the Google Wallet app on the Google Play Store and the App Store rolling out this week in the US, to use these new features.
