Shortly after adding social networking, Wikipedia and check-in features to its iOS Streetpilot onDemand app, today Garmin announced the addition of Google Street View in the Navigon app for iOS, and an Active Lane Assistant feature in the Android version. In addition, the company announced that it will soon make the Navigon app available for Samsung’s Bada OS for the Samsung Wave 3, and also for Cisco’s Cius business tablet.
The Google Street View addition will allow iOS users to see a street-level image of destinations or specific buildings and points of interest. The Android Active Lane Assistant will help drivers prepare for an upcoming exit or turn by providing an animated lane map with arrows and road layout. In addition, Android users will gain a Navigon widget that allows some functionality from the home screen, Bluetooth support for voice announcements and a Traffic Check gauge that appears after route calculation.
The Navigon app for Bada is set to launch this summer in North America, Europe and Australia/New Zealand. it will offer spoken turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic re-routing, lane guidance and optional alternative routes. It will be available through Samsung’s app market and sell for $50 (North America and Australia/NZ editions) or 50 euros (European edition).
The Cisco Cius version of Navigon will be available soon from the Cisco AppHQ. The Cius version will store all maps on the device, allowing navigation to work without a data connection. It will be available in the US first and is planned for later launches in Europe, Australia, Japan and China. Pricing for the Cius app has not yet been announced.
