FX Networks has announced they’ve renewed their hit comedy series Atlanta for a third season. The second season of the series aired this past winter/spring using the subtitle Robbin’ Season. No time table was given for the show’s return though, but previously there was a year and a half gap between the first and second seasons.

“Atlanta is phenomenal, achieving and exceeding what few television series have done,” said Eric Schrier and Nick Grad, co-presidents of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions. “With Atlanta Robbin’ Season, Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season. We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”

Atlanta tells the story of two cousins trying to find their way to the top of the local rap scene, all the while dealing with the many real and absurd troubles black folk face in the city. The series was created by Donald Glover who also stars in the lead role as Earnest “Earn” Marks, a Princeton dropout who now manages his cousin’s burgeoning rap career. He’s joined in the series by Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Stanfield, and Zazie Beetz.

The FX original is a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy award-winning show, with Glover receiving accolades for acting and directing.
