Walt Disney Animation Studios has a decided hit on their hands as their 53rd feature film, Frozen, today crosses the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office, splitting the total gross right down the middle between domestic and international grosses. Capping a record-breaking year at the box office for The Walt Disney Studios, the animated musical is the fourth 2013 Disney release to reach the $500M milestone, joining Disney•Pixar’s Monsters University and Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World.

Having opened wide domestically on November 27, Frozen earned $93.6M in just five days, setting the record for both the largest Thanksgiving debut in history as well as the largest opening ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film. Already the second biggest Walt Disney Animation Studios film ever in North America (behind The Lion King), Frozen became the biggest Walt Disney Animation Studios release of all time in the UK/Ireland today. The film has yet to open in several international territories including China, Brazil, Argentina, Korea, and Japan.
