Eye-Fi View Starting Own Photo Storage Service

Eye-Fi today is going beyond relying only on other services for its Wi-Fi SD cards by launching Eye-Fi View and e-mail sharing. The service hosts the photos themselves for access from a computer, iPad or iPhone as well as a new e-mail sharing feature. Photographers can now send full-size images just by logging in and sending directly to those they know from their contact lists.

Owners of the Eye-Fi Pro X2 also have a simultaneous upload feature that will put RAW files on a private FTP server at the same time as it uploads copies to View as a backup.

The free service works as a temporary holding space for occasional users and gives access to the most recent uploads over the past week. Unlimited access requires an Eye-Fi Premium account at $50 per year. E-mail sharing is always free.
