DropBox Releases New Sync APIs for Android and iOS

DropBox today made available to developers new application programming interfaces that will make it easier for developers to integrate DropBox into their own applications. Developers have always been able to add DropBox to their applications, but the repsonsibility to sync files, folders, and changes between the third-party app and the user’s account was the developer’s responsibility.

This required some coding on the developers’ part. Using the new Sync API from DropBox returns the syncing repsonsibilities back to DropBox, which means it will take far less work for developers to add DropBox and DropBox features to their own apps. They can now add offline caching and editing to their apps, as well as the ability to list the contents of a folder, or move, delete and create files and folders locally.

The API is available for download beginning today. DropBox provides mobile device users with cloud-based storage.
