Downton Abbey Movie May Start Shooting Mid-2018

The long talked about Downton Abbey movie could finally be heading into production this year going by quotes from a new interview from actress Phyllis Logan, who played housekeeper Mrs Hughes in the ITV period drama.

Speaking with the Mail on Sunday, she revealed that producers have been in touch with the show’s cast and have asked them to ‘clear their diaries’ for a specific period of time which looks like a potential shooting block:

“Everyone’s been asked what’s going on between this date and that date. So we just hope that all the elements – because there are so many – come together. To have a last hurrah with all the characters, going back to the castle and seeing all the old muckers will be fantastic. I’m certainly up for it…. there’s a potential script coming our way, slightly rewritten.”

The paper also says dates in the summer have already been selected for some interiors filming including Highclere Castle in Berkshire which is scheduled for closure in the first week of June. NBC Universal International Studios president Michael Edelstein has also indicated a 2018 shoot is likely.

The series came to an end in 2015 after six seasons, but fans and those involved have been talking of a film for the past few years and early plans to shoot in 2017 were scuttled.
