After attaching several filmmakers over the years, including The Grey director Joe Carnahan and Miss Bala helmer Gerardo Naranjo, Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures and MGM’s Death Wish remake is gaining traction with the revived interest of star Bruce Willis (Looper, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and new directors in Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. The Israeli filmmaking duo previously helmed the 2010 horror flick Rabies and festival favorite Big Bad Wolves, as well as a segment of The ABCs of Death 2.

Charles Bronson starred in the original 1974 film (in turn based on a 1972 novel by the same name) as a New York man who turns vigilante following the murder of his wife. The original Death Wish received four sequels (all of which starred Bronson) over the course of the next two decades.

The Death Wish remake is still working with Carnahan’s draft despite him leaving due to creative differences over the film’s lead, though subsequent rewrites by Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) and Graham Yost (“Justified”). The script is said to hew close to author Brian Garfield’s original novel
