Doctor Who alum David Tennant has been tapped to star in Camping, an eight-episode, straight-to-series comedy from Girls creator and executive producer Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, respectively. When Tennant appears on the series, he will play Walt, Kathryn’s (Jennifer Garner) obedient husband and loving father, who is the reliable lynch pin of his male social group — but below all that reality lurks a subtle but growing discontent about what he’s just signed up for.

Written and executive produced by Dunham and Konner, the comedy opens on Walt’s 45th birthday, which was supposed to be a delightful weekend back to nature, at least according to his obsessively organized and aggressively controlling wife, Kathryn. But when the camping trip gathers Kathryn’s meek sister, her holier-than-thou ex-best friend and a free-spirited tagalong in one place, it becomes a weekend of tested marriages and woman-on-woman crime that won’t soon be forgotten.

The idea for Camping is inspired by the British TV series of the same name written and directed by Julia Davis. As per the show’s new setup, Davis will executive produce via the Hush Ho banner.

Tennant, who is in-line to star in the television adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens for Amazon, recently completed work on reprising his role as The Purple Man aka Kilgrave for Marvel’s Jessica Jones, which is available to stream via Netflix right now.
