Etsy has launched an free iPhone app for iOS users and a mobile version of its website for others, just in time for the holiday buying season. The app, which is also compatible with the iPod Touch and iPad, offers options for both buyers and sellers, allowing the former to search for and buy the generally home-made craft items, or letting the latter manage their shops, check orders and even make minor corrections or updates. Etsy says it offers full access to the entire 11 million-item catalog of goods available for sale via the app and new mobile site.

Etsy specializes in hand-made new and customized items, many of which are one of a kind. Users can search for items in a variety of ways, and filter by location or price or how recent an item is among other criteria.

Both the app and mobile version of the website focus on large photos of items, and customers can share what they’ve found on the major social networks or by MMS or e-mail. Buyers can purchase items directly from the app using a credit card or PayPal. Sellers can opt to get alerts when someone places an order, and buyers can review their entire purchase history on the app.
