Corsair Announces Three News USB 3.0 Thumb Drives

Posted by at 6:22 pm on September 11, 2011

Corsair finished the week with USB 3.0 versions of its three core USB thumb drives.  The regular Flash Voyager, boosted Flash Voyager GT, and ruggedized Flash Survivor all have both more theoretical and real speed  gains.  The Voyager GT  is as much as four times faster when on USB 3.0 and can  hit up to 135MB per second in read speeds and 83MB per second in writes, giving  it speed closer to a dedicated solid-state drive.

The regular Voyager also gets an opportunity to  slim down with the interface change, becoming a full inch shorter and slightly  narrower.  Both it and the GT are semi-rugged with rubber housing, but the  Survivor is designed for extreme conditions and can stay in water up to 656 feet  deep with extra shock resistance.

Every drive is backwards-compatible  with USB 2.0, though not 1.0 due to USB 3.0’s limits.  Linux and Mac users can  run it alongside Windows, although they won’t get the full speed until complete  USB 3.0 hardware and software support arrives.

Prices start from as  little as $17 for an 8GB Flash Voyager through to $129 for a 64GB Flash Voyager  GT, although the prices of the standard Flash Voyager and Flash Survivor are  kept low by topping out at 16GB of storage.  All of the drives should be available  now at both online and physical stores.
