Chevron Plan to Roll Out Apple Pay to Stores and Gas Pumps in 2015

chevron_HE_V_RGBChevron is planning to bring Apple Pay to its gas pumps starting early next year, according to Bloomberg. The company actually first laid out that goal when Apple Pay debuted on October 20th, but has stayed relatively quiet since.

In the meantime the company has been deploying the technology elsewhere, such as in stores; some previously announced Apple Pay partners include Chevron’s Texaco and Extra Mile brands.

Chevron says that “a timeline is not set” for gas pump support. The company meanwhile plans to continue deploying Apple Pay to 3,000 stores “this year,” presumably meaning 2015.

Across industries, the retail application of Apple Pay has mostly been limited to static, indoor point-of-sale terminals. Deployments in mobile and outdoor scenarios are only now beginning to take hold. Walt Disney World for instance recently adopted Apple Pay for places like bars and kiosks, but has yet to upgrade the portable payment terminals used at locations such as table restaurants.
