Activision Publishing today announced its line-up for E3 next week. Here’s the full press release:

Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc., is ushering in the next-generation of gaming at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 Expo) taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 11 – 13, 2013 with a blockbuster lineup that features some of the industry’s biggest franchises. On display at Activision’s booth #647 in the South Hall, the company’s slate includes Call of Duty®: Ghosts, Destiny™and Skylanders SWAP Force™.

“This is obviously a big year – not just for Activision, but for the entire industry,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “There’s a console transition coming and naturally, everyone wants to see what new possibilities that will unleash in the games. We remain laser focused on delivering the things we know our gamers care about most: great gameplay, immersive worlds, and cool innovations. And that’s what our amazing lineup at E3 this year will deliver.”

Activision’s E3 Slate Includes:

Call of Duty: Ghosts – Developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the original Call of Duty® and the critically-acclaimed Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® series, Call of Duty: Ghosts is the next generation of Call of Duty and a stunning leap forward for the franchise. The game delivers an all-new world, setting and cast of characters, all powered by a new, next-generation engine. For the first time, gamers play as the underdog, fighting as part of a single squad against an enemy that has superior numbers and firepower. Call of Duty: Ghosts’ next-gen engine delivers gameplay innovations throughout the entire game, including several new multiplayer features that will be unveiled in the coming months. The game is expected to release on November 5, 2013 for the Xbox 360® games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows® PC. (Developed for Xbox One®, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, Xbox 360, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®3 system and Windows PC; not yet rated by the ESRB.)

Destiny – Activision in partnership with Bungie, the creators of Halo®, will showcase Destiny, the next evolution in interactive entertainment that brings first-person action gamers together in a shared, persistent online world filled with sweeping adventures. Destiny casts players as Guardians of the last city on Earth, who will traverse the ancient ruins of our solar system from the red dunes of Mars to the lush jungles of Venus. Able to wield incredible power, gamers must battle humanity’s enemies and reclaim all that was lost during the collapse of mankind’s Golden Age. In a story-driven universe, Destiny’s saga unfolds through grand tales and epic adventures by immersing players in a bold new universe filled with cooperative, competitive, public, and social activities, all seamlessly connected. (Developed for the PlayStation 4 system, PlayStation 3 system, Xbox One and Xbox 360; not yet rated by the ESRB.)

Skylanders SWAP Force – Activision’s Skylanders SWAP Force continues to build upon the success of the award-winning franchise’s signature gameplay and collectible toy experience with the introduction of an innovative feature – dynamic swapability. Kids and gamers will have unprecedented levels of choice in how they explore Skylands and battle Kaos by swapping the top and bottom halves of the toys to transform 16 SWAP Force characters into more than 250 unique combinations. Set in a richly detailed world of next generation visual fidelity, Skylanders SWAP Force takes kids on an all-new adventure with 32 never-before-seen heroic characters that each offer unique powers and personalities. The game also features new abilities – such as flying, climbing, and teleporting – which can be used in special areas of Skylands. Additionally, fans can play with their entire collection of 100+, forward-compatible toys from both Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure® and Skylanders Giants™. Skylanders SWAP Force is set to release in North America on October 13, Australia on October 16 and Europe on October 18. Fans can pre-order Skylanders SWAP Force Starter Packs worldwide beginning on June 7; all games pre-ordered at participating retailers worldwide also will come with a free Skylanders toy. Suggested retail pricing: starter pack, $74.99; individual action figures, $9.99 for core characters, $14.99 for new SWAP Force characters. (Developed by Vicarious Visions for the PlayStation 4 system, PlayStation 3 system, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the Wii U™ system from Nintendo; the Wii™ from Nintendo version is in development by Beenox; the portable Nintendo 3DS™ version is in development by n-Space; not yet rated by the ESRB.)

Developed in Japan by Ganbarion together with Nintendo, Pandora’s Tower takes the familiar maiden in distress theme and turns it on its head, asking the protagonist to slay over a dozen giant monsters and collect their flesh in order to lift a curse that has befallen his lover. The game opens in the Kingdom of Elyria, where an unassuming singer named Elena succumbs to a wretched curse during a festival performance. Bearing an arcane mark on her back, she begins a seemingly irreversible transformation into a cursed monster. It comes to pass that only the brave Aeron, a young ex-soldier whose heart has forever been pledged to Elena, can save her.

The game has an MSRP of $39.99 and is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.

SWAP Force builds upon the success of the franchise’s signature gameplay with an all-new innovative play pattern — swapability — that gives kids more choice than ever before by letting them swap the top and bottom halves of the toys to create their own characters. The game lets Portal Masters reconfigure 16 SWAP Force characters into more than 250 unique combinations. Kids can mix and match characters’ powers and moves, and then bring them to life in the game. Fans of the franchise also can play Skylanders SWAP Force with their entire collection of characters from both Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure and Skylanders Giants, now with the added capability of jumping.

In Skylanders SWAP Force, Portal Masters embark on an all-new adventure in the mysterious Cloudbreak Islands, home to a mystical volcano that erupts every hundred years to replenish the magic in Skylands. During an epic battle, a brave group of Skylanders were caught in the volcano’s eruption, which blasted them apart and sent them to earth. But, the magic of the volcano gave these heroes a remarkable new power — the ability to swap halves — turning them into a special team known as the SWAP Force. Meanwhile, Kaos is back with a new evil plan. And now, Portal Masters everywhere must reassemble the SWAP Force — in their original form or in new combinations — and send them back to Cloudbreak to save Skylands!

Skylanders SWAP Force features 16 new SWAP Force characters, along with 32 core Skylanders characters (16 completely new Skylanders and 16 new versions of fan favorite characters from previous games) and eight new LightCore characters. Skylanders SWAP Force also delivers high-resolution graphics that bring the game’s detailed characters and rich environments to life, immersing players in the gameplay like never before.

“With Skylanders, we didn’t just create a beloved new franchise, we actually created an entirely new category that brings the world of physical toys and video games together like never before. And now with Skylanders SWAP Force, we are pushing the genre we created forward with another big innovation: customization,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. “The idea that kids can customize their own characters in the physical world, and have their unique combinations recognized in the virtual world, is an idea as big as the concept of bringing toys to life itself.”

The new configuration is beginning to arrive in stores now, and will be broadly available in the U.S. by Oct. 28. This configuration includes a black Wii console and both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on a single game disc, as well as a Wii Remote Plus and a Nunchuk controller – both black to match the console. This configuration replaces the current black Wii that comes with New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

“Nearly six years after it launched, people are still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun of the Wii console,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “A new suggested retail price and the inclusion of two great games make it an easy choice for families looking for a great value this holiday season.”

Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort represent two games that helped pioneer the industry move toward motion-controlled video games. The games include a wide variety of sports that use the controllers in unique ways. Players can try their hand at sports like bowling, tennis, baseball, archery, table tennis and basketball, all while simulating real-life motions using the Wii Remote Plus controller. For the first time, both games are included on a single game disc.

Dragon Quest X sold 420,311 copies in its first week, according to Enterbrain data. The MMO’s debut was low for a Dragon Quest game: Dragon Quest IX, as a comparison, sold 2,353,440 copies in its first week in Japan back in 2008. Of course, even if it sells fewer copies, it’s an MMO and those sales will continue to pay out.

For the Wii, however, it’s a boon: the launch of DQX led to 41,561 hardware units sold, including a special edition with the game bundled in. That’s almost four times the previous week’s 10,549 systems. It turns out people like to buy video game systems when there are games to play on them.

The lawsuit between the band No Doubt and Activision, first filed way back in 2009, finally, finally has a court date. After Activision failed to have the suit dismissed in 2010, the suit will go to trial on October 15, reports GameSpot.

The suit alleges that the band’s likeness was used in an unauthorized manner in Band Hero. No Doubt takes exception to the fact that players can use its band members’ avatars to perform any song in the game, even those that aren’t by No Doubt. Singer Gwen Stefani was particularly riled about the fact that her avatar could be used to sing songs with male vocalists, with the suit claiming the band’s inclusion was tantamount to a “virtual karaoke circus act.”

Come October 15, the case will go forward in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Now we wait to see if the Pokémon X Nobunaga’s Ambition franchise crossover converts poke-fever into a desire to buy strategy games based on feudal Japan. Scout out the UK top ten after the break.

Nintendo apparently added Tecmo’s spooktacular franchise to its list of copyrights. Furthermore, it appears that Nintendo wholly owns the IP for Spirit Camera, the Fatal Frame spin-off recently released on the 3DS. The company also has ownership and publishing rights for Project Zero 2: Wii Edition, which is slated to hit Europe later this year (still no North American announcement for that one).

Nintendo has been tied to the Fatal Frame series for a few years now, publishing the two Fatal Frame games mentioned above as well as Fatal Frame 4, which was never released outside of Japan.
