Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move highlights the new eShop releases this week. The 3DS puzzler has players guiding poor little mini Marios away from hazards by building a Pipe Dream-esque maze. The Wii U Virtual Console picks up two new games in the classic shooter Xevious and puzzle platformer Solomon’s Key.

The long awaited North American release of Pandora’s Tower finally is finally upon us. Publisher XSEED has announced that the Wii RPG will finally launch on April 16 for $40.

Developed in Japan by Ganbarion together with Nintendo, Pandora’s Tower takes the familiar maiden in distress theme and turns it on its head, asking the protagonist to slay over a dozen giant monsters and collect their flesh in order to lift a curse that has befallen his lover. The game opens in the Kingdom of Elyria, where an unassuming singer named Elena succumbs to a wretched curse during a festival performance. Bearing an arcane mark on her back, she begins a seemingly irreversible transformation into a cursed monster. It comes to pass that only the brave Aeron, a young ex-soldier whose heart has forever been pledged to Elena, can save her.

The game has an MSRP of $39.99 and  is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.

The final weekly DLC release for Rock Band will be issued on April 2, Harmonix announced today. Due to other ongoing projects at the studio, production on Rock Band DLC has slowed in recent months. Up until April 2, Harmonix will release weekly DLC per usual.

Harmonix has been issuing Rock Band DLC songs for over 275 consecutive weeks, which comes to over five years of consistent weekly releases. The Rock Band DLC catalog includes over 4,000 supplemental tracks, spanning all Rock Band games and the Rock Band Network.

After yesterday’s report that the 24-year history of Nintendo Power was coming to an end, Nintendo has confirmed that the December 2012 issue will be the magazine’s last. “Nintendo can confirm that Future US will end the production of Nintendo Power magazine with the last issue slated for December 2012,” the company told CVG (which is also owned by Future Publishing).

According to yesterday’s report, Nintendo was “difficult to work with” and did little to help Future transition the magazine into the online era. Nintendo Power staff members will reportedly migrate to other Future publications.

Nintendo has chosen not to renew its licensing agreement with Future Publishing and has no intentions to take over the publication itself, according to insider sources speaking to Ars Technica. Originally launching in 1988, Nintendo Power was run in-house by Nintendo until the property was licensed to Future in 2007.

This information is corroborated by Nintendo Power senior editor Chris Hoffman, who tweeted that he and his staff will “try to make the last issues memorable.”

Reportedly “difficult to work with,” Nintendo is said to have taken no interest in working with Future on expanded online initiatives to strengthen the Nintendo Power brand. Editors and staff members were told that the magazine would be shut down sometime last week and have since begun transitioning to other Future publications, according to Ars Technica’s source.

The Club Nintendo gold Wii Nunchuk proved popular among its release, either due to an overwhelming number of Club Nintendo users in North America who want to coordinate with their Skyward Sword Wiimotes, or who just love gold Nunchuks regardless of color matching. They’re so popular that Club Nintendo has run out of stock.

Dragon Quest X sold 420,311 copies in its first week, according to Enterbrain data. The MMO’s debut was low for a Dragon Quest game: Dragon Quest IX, as a comparison, sold 2,353,440 copies in its first week in Japan back in 2008. Of course, even if it sells fewer copies, it’s an MMO and those sales will continue to pay out.

For the Wii, however, it’s a boon: the launch of DQX led to 41,561 hardware units sold, including a special edition with the game bundled in. That’s almost four times the previous week’s 10,549 systems. It turns out people like to buy video game systems when there are games to play on them.

The lawsuit between the band No Doubt and Activision, first filed way back in 2009, finally, finally has a court date. After Activision failed to have the suit dismissed in 2010, the suit will go to trial on October 15, reports GameSpot.

The suit alleges that the band’s likeness was used in an unauthorized manner in Band Hero. No Doubt takes exception to the fact that players can use its band members’ avatars to perform any song in the game, even those that aren’t by No Doubt. Singer Gwen Stefani was particularly riled about the fact that her avatar could be used to sing songs with male vocalists, with the suit claiming the band’s inclusion was tantamount to a “virtual karaoke circus act.”

Come October 15, the case will go forward in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Square Enix has announced its Gamescom 2012 lineup, and all of its big names look to be attending. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn seems to be headlining the event, with on-stage gameplay promised alongside signing sessions by producer and director Naoki Yoshida (will every autograph come with an apology?). Gamescom will also play host to the first European hands-on sessions with Tomb Raider, Hitman: Absolution and Sleeping Dogs.

Also on display will be the upcoming PC re-release of Final Fantasy 7 and the retro-styled mobile title Final Fantasy Dimensions.

Thanks to the start of the Olympics, sales of London 2012: The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games were up 25 percent last week in the UK, helping the global event tie-in game step up to the top pedestal.

The official game, which held the silver last week, wasn’t the only Olympics game to benefit from the event’s starting gun. Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games also saw a bump of 21 percent, raising it from eighth to bronze. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes finds itself wedged between the two sports minigames in silver.

Pokémon Conquest was the only new game last week to break the top 40, storming spot 17 in its debut week. Now we wait to see if the Pokémon X Nobunaga’s Ambition franchise crossover converts poke-fever into a desire to buy strategy games based on feudal Japan. Scout out the UK top ten after the break.

Telltale Games wants to reassure fans that the third episode in the series – “Long Road Ahead” – launches in “the middle of August.” The company’s blog announced a company rep said, “Although we can’t give you an exact date at this time, we can say that episode three will be ready in the middle of August, and that we and our partners will do all we can to release all platforms and regions as close together as possible.”

The Walking Dead’s episodic series received critical praise and commercial success since the first episode launched earlier this year. The game’s third episode is set for launch this August, with two more planned episodes launching in subsequent months.

Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition is set to run into XBLA, PSN and WiiWare during the week of July 10, this week’s PlayStation Blogcast confirms.

Zombie Studios, the team behind Blacklight: Retribution, is developing Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition. It will feature traditional and new game modes, and a few different skins, including sprites from classic Castlevania and Contra games.
