This is an increase of 52 percent over the same period last year.

Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins sold 94,000 physical and digital copies in the US since its launch on April 24 and hit No. 9 on the April NPD chart. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon sold 140,000 units in April, for a lifetime total of 530,000 in the states.

Some analysts expected the 3DS to be the only major console with sales up from April 2012, with the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3 and Vita down year-over-year. Findings show the Vita down 57 percent, while the 3DS was up 46 percent with 185,000 sales.

Girls’ Fashion Shoot lets players enter the world of fashion by becoming an influential model and launching a successful magazine.

Enter the world of fashion and build your career as the next top model and editor in Girls’ Fashion Shoot. Take the reins at a popular fashion magazine, become a model yourself and aim for the top by creating stylish articles that get attention. Create your own style from hundreds of outfits, hairstyles, and nails and then go on fashion shoots where you create the poses and looks for eye-catching magazine articles and covers. Use the money you earn to upgrade your wardrobe and apartment. The sky’s the limit!

“This is a fabulous way for players to flex their flair for fashion,” said Phil Robinson, vice president of Rising Star Games. “Not only are they putting together fierce looks for the runway, but also making sure those looks translate to the magazine page, so they’re sharpening their business acumen while being creative and having fun.”

Girls’ Fashion Shoot is rated ‘E’ for Everyone, and is expected to launch in fall 2013.

The 3D Classics series of downloadable games for the Nintendo 3DS are pretty much exactly what they sound like: classic games from Nintendo’s back catalog “remastered” in 3D. Early adopters of the system may have received 3D Classics: Excitabike for free, and since then, Kirby’s Adventure, Kid Icarus, TwinBee, Urban Champion and Xevious have been added to the 3D Classics lineup. These games have been pretty hit and miss, and with the exceptions of Kirby’s Adventure and Kid Icarus they are all games only the most oldest of school care (or know) about. That’s set to change, with a 3D remake of the original Sonic The Hedgehog due out for the system later this month.

3D Sonic the Hedgehog is pretty much a straight port of the original game, with just a few extra tweaks. You can spin dash just like in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and save states have been added. If you want to play without the tweaks, there’s an option to turn spin dashes off and remap the buttons to the Genesis layout.

If that’s not old school enough for you, players can switch between the Japanese release and International version to see the minor differences between the two versions. You can even choose the sound emulation based on the Sega Genesis or the Sega Genesis model 2. Sega has also included an “Faux CRT” option to play the game with a warped screen that looks like you are playing on a 90′s style CRT screen. You can set the 3D graphics to depth or zoom, and you can of course turn them off completely if you want the full old school experience.

The bad news is that only the Japanese release date and price (May 15 for 600 yen, which is about $6 US) has been revealed for now, but as Sonic is such a huge character worldwide, it probably won’t be long before this game sees an English release.

This is the first title in a second set of Guild games from Level 5 which are created by famous Japanese developers.

Guild01 featured games from Suda51 (Liberation Maiden), Yoot Saito (Aero Porter) and Yasumi Matsuno (Crimson Shroud). It was released for 3DS in Japan in May 2012 but the three games came out separately through the 3DS eShop in Europe. Guild02 features Bugs Vs Tanks, a game from Mega Man designer Keiji Inafune, Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale by Kaz Ayabe and The Starship Damrey, the first of these games to be released via the eShop.

The Starship Damrey is from visual novellists Kazuya Asano and Takemaru Abiko. In this suspense-filled tale, you awaken to discover that you are trapped in a Cold Sleep capsule aboard the titular Starship Damrey with no memory of who you are or how you got there. With no tutorials, explanations, or hints provided, self-discovery and experimentation are an integral part of the experience.

The team behind the rad Rex Rocket Kickstarter has plans to bring Blossom Tales, a Zelda-style adventure game, to Nintendo platforms, if its fundraising goes well. Blossom Tales is a colorful, top-down adventure inspired by Zelda: A Link to the Past, developer Rob Maher tells Nintendo Life.

“Set in the world of Blossom, the game follows a young and newly initiated Knight of the Rose, Lily. After King Orchid is double-crossed and cursed to sleep by the Wizard Crocus, it’s up to Lily to find ingredients to concoct a potion that will restore the King,” Maher says. “We are hoping to pave the way with Rex Rocket onto Nintendo and follow it up with Blossom Tales – depending on the success of Rex Rocket, we may develop a sequel first. Nintendo is the primary goal for us, 100 percent.”

The Rex Rocket Kickstarter has 21 days to raise less than $1,000 and reach its $6,000 goal. It’s scheduled to launch in January 2014 for PC, with other platforms down the line.

As we stretch into year two of the 25th anniversary celebration, Capcom is producing a Mega Man-themed case for 3DS and 3DS XL.

At first blush, outfitting a 3DS in Mega Man garb seems like a cruel tease, after the death of Mega Man Legends 3. But Capcom is releasing all of the NES Mega Mans on the handheld’s Virtual Console, making an NES-style Mega Man motif appropriate.

The case will be on sale at Comic-Con, as well as at Capcom’s online store.

You can now buy a refurbished one directly from Nintendo. The gaming giant just began offering refurbished 3DS and DSi XL systems through its online store. If you’re wary of buying a used system, then get this — the refurbished products come with the same one-year warranty offered on new products.

“Authentic Nintendo Refurbished Products are the only refurbished products in the market that have been cleaned, tested, and inspected to meet Nintendo’s high standards,” the company said. They “are guaranteed to be fully functional, but may have minor cosmetic blemishes. “On the downside, however, returns or refunds are not allowed for refurbished systems.

The used systems start at $99.99 for the DSi XL and $129.99 for the 3DS. That’s a discount of about $30 off the price of a new DSi XL, and $40 for the 3DS.
Nintendo currently has a number of different variants up for sale in its refurbished section, including the 3DS in either Aqua Blue or Midnight Purple, and the DSi XL in either Aqua Blue or Metallic Rose. You can also get a used 3DS packaged with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for $169.98, or a used DSi XL with Mario Kart DS for $129.98.

Japan is getting a 3DS XL covered in other-Mario-brother. The Luigi-themed portable, revealed during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, comes with a 4GB SD card and a pre-installed copy of Mario and Luigi: Dream Team. It leaps onto Japan’s retail shelves (the highest ones, since it’s Luigi) on the game’s release date of July 18.

We may not have a portable in 50 Shades of Green, but we can at least look forward to the RPG reaching our shores on August 11 for North America and July 12 for Europe.

The next iteration is called “Megaforce,” and a 3DS tie-in game will use a card scanner to enable power-ups. It’s coming this fall.

The game from Namco Bandai is a side-scrolling action game, based on the Nickelodeon series of the same name. It pits the Rangers against the Warstar aliens, who presumably enjoy war. You can fight as the Rangers and then, of course, call in Megazords to take on larger threats. Players will be able to collect “Morpher Cards” and scan them, or use the 3DS camera to take a picture of themselves as a Megaforce Ranger.
