Olympus has officially announced its Pen E-P5 Micro Four Thirds camera, one leaked earlier this month. Designed to look like the Pen F to mark its 50th anniversary, the Pen E-P5 boasts a string of thoroughly-modern components within its retro styling, including a 16-megapixel TruePic VI Live MOS sensor and a 1.04 million dot tilting LCD touchscreen on the rear.

Along with the same autofocus found in the OM-D E-M5, the E-P5 uses an in-body 5-axis image stabilization system and a new IS-AUTO mode, with correction checking while composing the photograph available in the optional eyepiece, which uses a 2.36 million dot LCD, 1.48x magnification, and eye detection to automatically switch on the extra display.

The fast 1/8000th of a second shutter speed is matched by the 1/320th of a second synch speed of the flash and a short release time lag AF mode that can reduce the time between shots down to 0.044 seconds, and nine-frame sequential shooting. Aside from the touchscreen, controls are provided through the 2×2 dial control system, a function lever, function button, and a lens release button. Various modes and filters have also been included, as well as Wi-Fi, which can be linked to a mobile device running a free app via QR code scanning for remote control access.
Available at the end of May in the US, the Pen E-P5 will be priced at $1,000 for the body only, in a choice of black, white, or silver trim. An option that includes a black or silver body with a VF-4 electronic viewfinder and a M.Zuiko digital 17mm f1.8 lens will also be on sale, at a higher $1,450.

Nikon has revealed three new Coolpix cameras, including its first with a DX-format CMOS sensor. The Coolpix A aims to offer customers the image quality found in a DSLR but inside a compact camera, while the P330 expands on the groundwork done by the Coolpix P310, and the S3500 provides an upgraded feature set to the Coolpix S line, including lens-shift vibration reduction.

Housing a DX-format 16.2-megapixel sensor, the Coolpix A uses an all-glass 18.5mm prime lens that is a 28mm equivalent, with an aperature of f/2.8 for shallow depth-of-field shots. It can use multiple scene modes, the usual PSAM manual exposure controls, a manual focus ring, and a 4fps burst mode. It can also shoot RAW/NEF files, and while it is capable of shooting at an ISO range of between 100 and 25,600, it does not come with the optional viewfinder.

The Coolpix P330 uses a larger 1/1.7-inch, 12.2-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor instead of the 1 /2.3-inch used in the P310. Using an f/1.8 24mm-120mm lens, the P330 can now capture NRW/RAW images, while the PSAM controls are joined by an Easy Auto Mode, various scene modes, and full HD video recording with stereo sound triggered by a dedicated button. It also has a built-in GPS for geotagging.

The S3500 includes a new 20.1-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle 7x optical zoom Nikkor lens, as well as the vibration reduction technology, into the budget camera. The rear LCD has a 320×240 resolution, and it is capaoble of shooting 720p video.

All three cameras will be going on sale later this month. The S3500 will cost $140 and the P330 at $380. On its own, the Coolpix A will have a pricetag of $1,100, while the optional viewfinder will cost an additional $450.

Sony Europe has officially revealed a pair of new digital cameras. The first model is the APS-C NEX-3N interchangeable lens camera, which has a 16.1MP Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and is Sony’s entry-level mirrorless camera. The second model, the A58, is a 20.1MP APS HD CMOS device that utilizes A-mount lenses, and offers translucent mirror technology.

The NEX-3N includes a 7.5cm LCD screen for view finding and has a zoom lever on the camera body for fingertip control of focal length with compatible lenses such as the SELP1650 power zoom. The ISO 16000 rating is supplemented with the BIONZ noise reduction processor found in the A99. The camera auto-focuses on 25 points, and can shoot approximately four frames per second in continuous shooting, or 50i/25p AVCHD Full HD video.

The A58 camera’s translucent mirror technology directs light onto the main image sensor as well as a separate autofocus sensor. The camera also uses the BIONZ image processing engine, and is a ISO 16000 device. A 6.7CM LCD displays the 15 point autofocus on the device. The camera is capable of five frames per second in burst shooting and captures AVCHD 1920×1080 at 50i or 25p.

Both cameras will be available in Europe this Spring. Pricing has not been disclosed. No news of a US launch has been announced.

Nikon has introduced a new addition to its prosumer line of DSLRs, the last camera to be upgraded following the introduction of the D3200 and D5200. The D7100, is the successor to the D7000, upgrades the 16.2-megapixel sensor to a new 24.1-megapixel DC-format CMOS sensor, and copies the D5200 in using the EXPEED 3 image processor.

The autofocus has been pushed to use 51-points, 15 of which are cross-type, through a new Multi-CAM 3500DX AF module. The AF system and exposure works with a Nikon’s 3D Color Matrix Metering II 2,016-pixel RGB sensor, which also includes a scene recognition system for automatic adjustment to various parameters prior to shooting. The D7100 is capable of shooting at six frames per second at full resolution, seven when using the 1.3x crop mode with a reduced resolution, the release time lag is now a twentieth of a second, and the ISO range goes from 100 to 6400, expandable to Hi-2 at 25,600.

Video can be recorded at 1080p at 30fps, or at 60i and 50i in 1.3x Crop Mode, while sound can be recorded through its stereo internal microphone or an external microphone, with an additional headphone terminal allowing for live audio monitoring. Special effects, such as selective color or “Color Sketch” can be applied to videos being recorded in real time.

The viewfinder now uses a new OLED data display, which also provides 100-percent frame coverage for improved shot composition, accompanying the 1,229k dot 3.2-inch LCD display. A Wireless Mobile Adapter will allow the camera to communicate with a mobile device from up to 49 feet away, allowing for remote shooting and remote collection of images from its dual SD card slots.

The Nikon D7100 will go on sale in March for around $1600 with an 17-105mm lens, or $1200 for the body alone.

Press images for two upcoming Sony cameras have apparently leaked online. The new photographs for the Sony NEX-3N show more of the camera off compared to the previously leaked image, and is joined by similar images for the Sony A58, with both cameras said to be revealed at a press conference on the 20th of February.

As rumored previously, the Sony NEX-3N is said to house a 16.1-megapixel APS-C sensor similar to the NEX-F3, would be capable of using Sony 16-50mm PX and 18-200mm PZ lenses, keeps an integrated flash, and will also have a zoom lever near the shutter button.

The A58, aimed more towards professional photographers, will apparently have a 20-megapixel sensor capable of 8fps shooting, per Sony Alpha Rumors. While the body will remain the same size as the A57, it will have a new focussing system, and while it will have the capability for remote control through a computer, it will not have Wi-Fi. It is suggested to have a $600 pricetag for the body alone.

Canon has announced the addition of three stylish, feature-packed PowerShot Digital Cameras to its line of imaging products. Newly added are the . The PowerShot ELPH 330 HS digital camera provides advanced wireless connectivity for easy sharing and includes the Company’s HS System that delivers clear images with minimal noise and maximum detail even when shooting in low-light. Canon’s Smart Auto feature allows the new cameras to detect up to 58 scenes for the PowerShot ELPH 330 HS digital camera and up to 32 scenes for the PowerShot ELPH 115 IS digital camera and PowerShot A2500 digital camera. All three models also feature ECO Mode, a new power consumption management technique that extends battery life by approximately 30 percent.

The PowerShot ELPH 330 HS digital camera builds upon the success of the PowerShot line with built-in wireless capabilities to share high-quality images captured with a 10x optical zoom lens and 12.1-megapixel high sensitivity CMOS image sensor with a maximum ISO of 6400. After an initial one-time set-up, the camera can connect to both iOS or Android smartphones and tablets for quick sharing. Frequently used devices and accounts are conveniently stored in the camera’s wireless history menu for quick one-touch access. Expected to hit store shelves in March, the PowerShot ELPH 330 HS camera will be available in black, silver or pink for an estimated retail price of $230.

The new PowerShot ELPH 115 IS digital camera features an 8x optical zoom lens (28-224mm) and includes a 16-megapixel image sensor with DIGIC 4 image processor. The PowerShot ELPH 115 IS digital camera provides Canon’s Smart Auto mode that selects the proper camera settings based on up to 32 predefined shooting situations for capturing images in a variety of settings. The new camera also includes Canon’s IS system technology, matching the lens movement with one of six stabilization modes for HD video capture and still images. With anticipated in-store availability in March, the PowerShot ELPH 115 IS digital camera will be available blue, silver, black or pink at an estimated retail price of $170.

Rounding out Canon’s new PowerShot lineup is the PowerShot A2500 digital camera. The new camera includes a 16MP image sensor coupled with the DIGIC 4 image processor, as well as a 28mm wide-angle lens with 5x optical zoom that can extend out to 140mm at the telephoto end. The camera also features Canon’s Smart Auto mode that analyzes each scene to select camera settings based on 32 predefined shooting scenarios. The PowerShot A2500 digital camera can also capture video, recording HD through a dedicated movie button. Canon’s Digital IS feature reduces the effect of camera shake and subject movement. ECO Mode conserves battery life, allowing users to shoot more photos over a longer period of time. The camera also features various Scene Modes such as fisheye effect, toy camera effect and monochrome. A prominent help button provides simple explanations of camera settings and functions for beginning photographers. Expected for sale in April, the PowerShot A2500 digital camera will be available in silver, red and black for an estimated retail price of $130.

Panasonic has unveiled a digital compact camera, the LUMIX DMC-LZ30 with powerful 35x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 25-875 mm) lens with Optical Image Stabilizer. The 16.1-megapixel high resolution CCD and high performance image processing LSI powerfully supports shooting high quality photo and video.

The iA (Intelligent Auto) mode lets users leave everything to the camera to take images with its Optical Image Stabilizer, Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent Exposure. Once you enter the iA mode, these multi-capable functions occur automatically, so that you can shoot without adjusting settings should conditions change.

The LUMIX DMC-LZ30 is also capable of recording HD video in 720p. The popular Creative Control and Creative Retouch are newly available with a total of 10 (Creative Control) / 11 (Creative Retouch) attracting filter effects. Panorama Shot and HDR(High Dynamic Range) are also incorporated in DMC-LZ30. The 3.0-inch large 460,000-dot LCD assures high visibility in any lighting circumstances, which is excellent for both shooting and playing back images. Its ergonomic design offers stable, comfortable grip even after holding a camera an extended time.

Important Features

Highly Versatile 25 mm Wide Angle Powerful 35x Optical Zoom Lens in a Compact Body
The DMC-LZ30 features 25 mm wide angle lens with a 35x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 25-875 mm). Comprising of 14 elements in 10 groups including 3 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens and 1 dual-sided aspherical lens, this advanced lens unit realizes the compact body. The Extra Optical Zoom function that extends zoom power to 78.8x (at 3-megapixel resolution) by using the center part of the 16.1-megapixel high resolution CCD to bring subjects even closer. Not only drawing near the subject distant away with its powerful optical zoom, the 25 mm ultra wide angle lens captures wider angle of view compared with a standard 35mm camera. It is helpful for shooting dynamic landscape or indoor group portrait. The blurring of an image due to hand shake occurs often when using a high zoom, however, the Optical Image Stabilizer minimizes it without causing deterioration of image quality. Linking smoothly with the 16.1-megapixel high resolution CCD sensor, the image processor reproduces high quality image even in high sensitivity recording at ISO 1600 and max. ISO 6400 with High Sensitivity mode.

iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode and Manual Exposure
Panasonic incorporated the Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of missed shots. The mode is a comprehensive integration of Optical Image Stabilizer, Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent Exposure – the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose shots, aim and shoot the subject. The Face Detection sets appropriate AF/AE on the face of people while removing the unwanted red-eye. The Intelligent Exposure corrects the brightness in parts of the image that are too dark due to insufficient lighting, backlighting or use of the flash. The Intelligent Scene Selector automatically selects the 6 Scene modes – Macro, Portrait, Scenery, Night Portrait, Night Scenery and Sunset – that yields the best shooting situation. While offering a convenient shooting-assist function such as iA, DMC-LZ30 is equipped with P / M mode for users that are more advanced to enjoy more creative photography.

High Quality 720P Video Recording and Instant Image Sharing with Family and Friends
The DMC-LZ30 records dynamic HD video in 1280 x 720p in Motion JPEG. Recording motion image can be started with a press of an independent motion picture button on the top of the camera, which is extremely convenient for users to switch photo/video shooting instantly. Zooming is also available to draw subjects far away. Users can also sort and archive the images via a bundled software PHOTOfunSTUDIO Ver. 9.0 LE and upload them to the social networking services like Facebook™ or YouTube™.
*Use a media card with SD Speed Class* with “Class 6″ or higher when recording motion pictures.
* SD speed class is the speed standard regarding continuous writing.
* Motion pictures can be recorded continuously up to 2 GB. The maximum available recording time for up to 2 GB only is displayed on the screen.

Other Features to Enhance the Performance of Cameras
The DMC-LZ30 newly integrates popular Creative Control and Creative Retouch. The Creative Control lets users shoot with a filter effect (Expressive, Retro, Low Key, High Key, Sepia, Dynamic Monochrome, Impressive Art, High Dynamic, Cross Process and One Point Color) while checking how it makes difference on the picture, which can be used for video recording, too*. The Creative Retouch enables applying a filter effect (Retro, Low Key, High Key, Sepia, Dynamic Monochrome, Impressive Art, High Dynamic, Toy Effect, Miniature Effect, Star Filter and One Point Color) on the picture after shooting in camera.

The Panorama Shot makes it possible to shoot a horizontal / vertical panoramic image with consequent shots taken by overlaying the previous picture. With the new HDR(High Dynamic Range) mode, several photos are consecutively shot at different exposure level to make a single composite picture without whiteout (over-exposure) or blackout (under-exposure) even in difficult lighting conditions.

Through the app, users can control their HD Hero 2 cameras equipped with the optional Wi-Fi BacPac only at this point. It’s not compatible with the original HD Hero while the new Hero3: Black Edition will get support in December while the Hero 3 White and Silver will be supported later in November.

Through the app, users will not only be capable of framing their shots remotely and from their Android device, but also control the camera’s settings such as resolution and frame rates, time-lapse setting, orientation, and other more advanced settings.

The app also has shortcuts to the Video of the Day and Photo of the Day from the GoPro community that are shared online.

Finally, GoPro suggests the best performance of the app will be on Android 4.0 or newer devices.

Nikon has revealed its soon to be released follow-up to the D5100 DSLR. The third in the series of cameras, the D5200 has only marginal physical changes externally, but the internals have been upgraded significantly. The biggest improvement is the inclusion of the 24.1-megapixel DC-format CMOS sensor combined with the new EXPEED 3 image processor.

The autofocus system, metering and scene recognition has received an overhaul, borrowing heavily from the D7000 series. A 39-point AF system with nine cross-type sensors replaces the 11 points of the D5100, and the 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor uses almost five times the pixels of the previous model. The user interface has been modernized, a new stereo microphone on the flip-up flash replaces the single microphone on the side of the D5100, and support for the WU-1a wireless adapter has also been included. The rear vari-angle LCD monitor, the most welcomed improvement to the D5100 from the D5000, is kept exactly the same.

The D5200 is expected to be out in December for around £700 ($1,100) for the body-only option. Packages including lenses have not been disclosed at this time.

A release date for mid-December suggests that the Micro Four Thirds, mirrorless camera will be making its way to other markets by the start of 2013.

The Lumix GH3 will be available in three different bundles. The option to get the body on its own is accompanied by a version with a 12-35mm f/2.8 zoom lens, and another will have the 14-140mm f/4.0-5.8 zoom lens instead. A battery grip, flashlight, battery pack, battery charger, DC coupler and a stereo microphone will be available at the same time as the body, while an AC adapter compatible with the camera is already on the market.

Using a 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor, the GH3 will have an ISO range of 200 to 12,800, extendable to 125 and 25,600, and uses the Venus Engine for 3D noise reduction and multi-process noise reduction. Capable of a 6fps burst fire rate in full resolution for up to 18 shots in both RAW and JPEG formats, it can also hit 20fps at a resolution of four megapixels and using the electronic shutter. A rear 3-inch free-angle OLED touchscreen monitor can flip out to the side and tilt 270 degrees vertically, while the live viewfinder is a 1,744k-dot equivalent OLED display with 1.34x magnification and a 100-percent field of view.

Nikon has announced the successor to the V1 mirrorless 1 System camera. The V2 uses an upgraded 14.2-megapixel CX-format CMOS sensor with a light sensitivity of between 160 and 640 ISO. An Expeed 3A image processor is aided by the Advance Hybrid Auto Focus system, which can switch between a 73-point phase detection and a 135-point contrast-detect AF system.

Housed in a magnesium body, the camera has a 3-inch LCD display on the rear as well as a 1.4 million dot electronic viewfinder. Capable of a 15-frames per second shooting speed with a continuous autofocus, and up to 60 fps with a fixed-point AF for up to 40 frames, it is also capable of recording full HD movies at 60 and 30fps, and at 60i, 60p, and 30p frame rates. At lower resolutions, the shutter speed ramps up tremendously, hitting 400fps at 640×240 resolution, and 1,200fps at 320×120 for a maximum of five seconds.

The Nikon 1 V2 will cost $900 when packaged with a 10-30mm kit lens when it becomes available in late November.

Nikon also mentioned three new 1 Nikkor interchangeable lenses it is adding to the range. A 32mm medium-telephoto fixed focal length lens with a fast maximum aperture of f/1.2, a 6.7-13mm f3.5-5.6 ultra wide-angle zoom lens with a 100-degree angle of view, and a compact 10-100mm f/4-5/6 lens with 10x zoom will be released in the future, most likely at the start of 2013, though a price has yet to be determined.

Canon has confirmed it will be releasing a new firmware for its in the future. The biggest update for the camera will be in allowing videographers to record uncompressed high-definition video from the HDMI port to an external recording device. The uncompressed YcbCr 4:2:2, 8-bit output will allow users to edit the resulting footage with as minimal degredation as possible.

The HDMI feed can also be displayed on an external monitor, letting filmmakers view the live video feed without resorting to watching the LCD on the back of the DSLR, making it more useful to larger productions. Also included in the firmware update are changes to the 5D Mark III’s autofocus. The new firmware will support AF using the camera’s central cross-type points, as well as a new maximum aperture of f/8, an increase from its previous maximum of f/5.6.

The firmware update will be free to customers, though it will not be released until April next year. It will be downloadable via the company’s support site, as well as through the customer’s nearest Factory Service Center.

Lytro has signed distribution deals with a number of US-based retailers, and is expanding to other markets. The light field camera will soon be made available internationally, including in Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore, while the US will see it appearing in more mainstream online stores, such as Amazon, as well as retail stores.

Starting from October 9, the websites of Best Buy, Target, and the aforementioned Amazon will start listing the camera, along with Future Shop in Canada. On the 10th, Australia stores will put it on sale, and in mid-October, stores in Hong Kong and Singapore will start selling it. In November, the Lytro will appear in CityTarget stores across the US. Further international expansion is still being planned by the company.

The Lytro is a camera that uses a special sensor capable of not only detecting the light’s luminosity and color, but also the direction it is coming from. This allows for resulting images to be refocused after the fact, allowing the viewer to put anything visible in the image into sharp focus while keeping everything else unfocussed.

OMG Life has unveiled a new twist on the concept of a wearable camera. The Autographer aims to automatically capture photos from varying angles and at different rates triggered either by movement, but is also manually adjustable based on user settings. The makers claim that the series of photos that the camera can produce over the course of a day will offer a distinct and unique perspective on wearer’s activities.

Autographer uses five on-board sensors (accelerometer, color sensor, magnetometer, motion detector, thermometer) and GPS capability to identify the best time to take a photo, based on changes in light and colour, motion, direction and temperature. The Autographer can be triggered to capture an image when the wearer speeds up as they run for the bus, moves from a warm pub to a snowy street or turns around to greet a friend.

A control panel lets users choose to speed up the rate of image capture during periods of intense activity, though the lens cover can be closed whenever the user chooses. Additional specifications include a wide-angle lens with a 1360 field of view, an OLED display, 8GB of on-board memory, and a 5-megapixel sensor.

The Autographer is complemented by a smartphone app that pairs a user’s mobile phone with you’re the device over Bluetooth. It also allows users to preview, browse and share all of the images inside the Autographer while on the go. The app will also set modes, adjust capture settings and check your battery level and memory capacity.

The Spark, for both Canon and Nikon DSLRs, lets users focus on a specific area of the frame, allowing the photographer to perform some creative shots using a manually-controllable artistic blur.

Focussing can be performed by squeezing the lens, and has a range of between 13-inches and infinity. The lens can then be tilted, in order to move the focus “sweet spot” around the image. It has a focal length of 50mm, a fixed aperture of f/5.6, and is also compatible with all other Lensbaby 37mm threaded accessory lenses.

Canon has quickly introduced a direct competitor to Nikon’s new D600 and Sony’s Alpha 99, unveiling the EOS 6D full-frame prosumer DSLR. The 6D appears to merge features from the 5D series, pairing the Digic 5+ image processor of the Mark III with a new 20.2-megapixel CMOS sensor that falls closer to the specs of the Mark II, though the new offering is priced below either of the older models.

The 6D provides a standard ISO range of 100-25600, expandable to 102,400, with full control over exposure when shooting video. Users can also choose between several video formats, including 1080p at 30fps or 720p at up to 60fps.

Canon suggests its new 11-point autofocus sensor is capable of performing in low-light conditions down to EV -3, though it only provides a single cross-type sensor. In contrast, the D600 offers a 39-point autofocus system with nine cross-type sensors, while the Alpha 99 steps up to 11 cross-type sensors.

Users will be able to take advantage of integrated Wi-Fi connectivity for wireless image and video sharing. Free apps for Android and iOS will enable mobile devices to be used as remote controls for live shooting or changing settings.

The 6D, D600 and Alpha 99 represent the latest push for full-frame equipment in the prosumer segment, which has been dominated by cameras with smaller APS-C sensors. Full-frame sensors typically provide superior low-light performance for a given resolution, among other benefits.

Canon has matched Nikon’s D600 price, selling the 6D body for $2099, while the Alpha 99 body fetches a premium at $2800. The 6D will also be available with a 24-105mm f/4 kit lens, bringing the price up to $2899, with both configurations expected to ship sometime in December.

In addition to the EOS 6D announcement from earlier, Canon has boosted the PowerShot line with three new models. The G15 provides some of the most advanced features in the PowerShot lineup. Built-in Wi-Fi allows the PowerShot S110 to share images and video to social networking. A high-powered 50x optical zoom lens and optical image stabilization give the SX50 HS clear, steady images even at full telephoto magnification.

The PowerShot G15 boasts a new 28mm wide-angle f/1.8 – f/2.8 lens with 5x optical zoom. Canons HS system with DIGIC 5 image processor and 1/1.7-inch 12.1MP CMOS image sensor work in tandem for low-light image quality enhancement at a maximum ISO of 12,800. The G15 is capable of 1080P video capture with a built-in stereo microphone. Improvements in the Canon autofocus system give improved focus times and reduced lag over previous G-series models. Continuous capture of 10 frames at 12.1MP is possible. An optical viewfinder and accessory shoe are standard on the model. The G15 is available in October for $500.

Besides just the Wi-Fi on the PowerShot S110, the 24mm f/2.0 wide-angle lens works with the DIGIC 5 image processor with 1/1.7 inch 12.1MP CMOS image sensor works similarly to the G15. The camera’s “intelligent” IS system matches the shooting conditions with one of six stabilization modes for smooth video and sharp images. As with the G15, the PowerShot S110 will be available in October for $450.

A new 2.8-inch vari-angle LCD screen and zoom framing assist helps users locate, track, and capture subjects on the new PowerShot SX50 HS. The camera features an electronic viewfinder, with Canon’s smart auto mode selecting optimal camera settings from 58 pre-defined shooting situations. The SX50 HS can be set to capture 12-bit RAW + JPEG image files for post-processing and modification. A hot shoe allows for the Canon accessory line to be powered by the camera. The SX50 HS is available for $480.

Photos of an unannounced Fujifilm mirrorless camera have surfaced online. Japanese site Digicam Info published leaked images of the X-E1, a camera that looks similar to the Fujifilm X-Pro1 high-end model, complete with classic retro-inspired styling and a pop-up flash on the top. The model replaces the “hybrid” optical and electronic versions on the X-Pro1 and X100, respectively.

Although missing an optical viewfinder, it does still have what appears to be a digital version on the top left corner at the rear. A lens attached to the camera in one image is a f/2.8-4 18-55mm, also supplied in a separate standalone image.

Although the lens has previously been announced, it has not yet been put on sale, and no details for other lenses being used with it have been made available either. It is notable that all previous pro lenses from Fujifilm were primes, making this one an unusual entry.

This lens gives the best hint of the camera’s availability as well, as a previous roadmap leak had the lens due in the fall. The X-E1 should arrive around the same time, and the lens will be interchangeable with the X-Pro1 as well.

It s possible that the X-E1 would fall between the X-Pro1 and the X1000 in the mirrorless range of Fujifilm cameras.

In addition to the Android-powered S800c point-and-shoot camera, Nikon also announced three other cameras in the Coolpix line today. The P7700 is the newest high-end flagship model for the Coolpix line, while the consumer-oriented 16MP S6400 is a basic point-and-shoot camera available in several different colors, and the smallest and lightest Coolpix ever has been announced — the S01.

The Coolpix P7700 supports full-scale manual photography, and replaces the P7100. The new camera features faster continuous shooting, and is equipped with a 1/1.7 inch backside-illuminated 12.2MP CMOS sensor, and a Nikkor lens with a 7.1x optical zoom, covering a range of focal lengths from 28mm to 200mm with a maximum aperture of f/2-4.

The S6400 sports a 16MP backside-illuminated CMOS sensor, and is equipped with a 12x optical zoom Nikkor lens with a focal length of 25 mm to 300mm, in a compact body. The LCD features a touch interface, allowing for rapid change of settings on the camera. A key feature of the S6400 is Target Finding, in which the user points the camera at a subject and the the camera automatically identifies and focuses on the subject, even if the object is in motion.

NIkon’s S01 — at three inches wide, two inches high, and 0.677 inches deep — is the smallest camera Nikon has ever made in the Coolpix line. The minuscule camera still manages to include a 10.1MP CCD image sensor, and a 3x optical zoom Nikkor lens with a 29mm to 87mm focal length. A 2.5-inch touch screen also allows for quick changing of phone settings, similar to the S6400.

All three cameras will be available in September. No pricing has been announced.

Both the SX160 IS and SX500 IS use similar 16-megapixel sensors in tandem with a DIGIC 4 image processor and Cannon’s Intelligent IS (image stabilization) system, have a three-inch LCD on the back, an ISO range of 100-800, and the ability to take 720p video at 25 frames per second, but then they diverge.

The SX500 IS boasts 30x optical zoom, an f/3.4-5.8 aperture range and 24mm to 720mm equivalent focal range. Autofocus is claimed to be improved over the SX40 HS by 32 percent, and shutter lag also decreased by 33 percent.

The cheaper SX160 IS has a lower 16-times zoom and its equivalent lens range goes from 28mm to 448mm. Although it loses the improvements of the SX500 IS, it does gain a dedicated button for video recording, is powered by AA batteries instead of a battery pack, and also has options for red and black versions where the SX500 IS is only in black.

Both cameras will be going on sale in September. The SX500 IS will be priced around $330, and the SX160 IS will sell for $230 regardless of color.

The Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system provides full support for Google Play apps, while enabling users to take advantage of Wi-Fi connectivity for image sharing and GPS for location tagging.

The mobile OS is presented on a 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen with 800×480 resolution, while the wireless connection can be used to directly transfer full-resolution images to other Android- or iOS-powered devices. The camera works with Nikon’s Picturetown service for cloud storage and sharing via Flickr or other networks.

As a camera, the S800c is outfitted with a 25mm to 250mm (35mm to 135mm equivalent) lens with 10x optical zoom. Lens-shift vibration reduction aims to reduce blurry shots, while the 16-megapixel CMOS sensor offers backside illumination for improved low-light performance. The image processing engine is also capable of recording 1080p video at 30 frames per second.

Nikon is expected to ship the S800c sometime next month.

The videos currently up are fairly short, but don’t go in-depth. Still, there are a few beginner-friendly tips and tricks for setting up and using the features of various Canon products, including the EOS DSLRs, point-and-shoot cameras, and flashes.

There are currently about 19 videos on the channel, though Canon promises to add more content often. The playlists are organized by Canon Camera, Printer, Movie/Inspiration, and Advertising/Promo videos.

While the videos don’t cover all models in Canon’s extensive range, the company does a good job of covering a specific feature or function on one low-end, mid-range, and high-end product in some of them. The features are likely to be very similar among these models, however.

Firmware v2 adds a number of improvements to the three-year old camera, allowing greater control of image settings and functionality. Changes include a higher maximum RAW burst rate, now up to 25 RAW files or 130 JPEGs, as well as a number of new in-camera editing functions.

Users can now adjust the white balance, sharpness, and Picture Style alongside processing RAW files. Extra controls over Auto ISO levels during both still and movie shooting also appear, allowing for limiting ISO speeds to within the native ISO 400 to 6,400 range. Videographers can also manually control the audio levels, and can choose from 64 sound level presets. Geotagging support through the Cannon GP-E2 GPS add-on unit has also been added to the camera.

Firmware v2 is available to download from Canon’s software site now.
