Also announced by the company are the HP Officejet Pro 251dw, and Officejet Pro 251dw Multifunction Printer.

HP PageWide Technology delivers four colors of HP ink at one time onto a moving sheet of paper. As the paper moves, the printhead remains stationary, allowing the HP Officejet Pro X Series to print quickly and quietly. HP 970 and 971 ink cartridges feature quick-drying, long-lasting pigment inks, and feature optimized color mixing and paper interaction for high-speed printing. The HP Officejet Pro X uses up to 50 percent less energy with up to 50 percent less supplies waste than laser, while offering comparable quality. The HP Officejet Pro X Series is now shipping worldwide. Single-function models start at $449, and MFPs start at $649.

The HP Officejet Pro 251dw Printer and the HP Officejet Pro 276dw MFP offer up to 50 percent lower cost per page than color laser. The HP Officejet Pro series is outfitted with enterprise-ready manageability solutions, including HP Universal Print Drivers, HP Web Jetadmin software, HP Managed Print Services (MPS) and enterprise-ready solution enablement. The HP Officejet Pro 251dw Printer and the HP Officejet Pro 276dw MFP will be available worldwide later this spring. No pricing is available.

BERG’s RSS feed-printing Little Printer that was announces back in November has now been put up for pre-order. The printer can also pull updates from Foursquare and Google as well as produce task lists, location updates, and direct messages from friends. The printer will cost $259 plus shipping and will begin arriving in customers’ hands in about 60 days, though this will be a limited production cycle. A full-blown run will follow in the following weeks.

The delay since the introduction is being blamed for adding mirror onto the plastic, folding steel, fixing radio interference issues, and designing characters while making the best possible API for developers, BERG revealed.

It can connect to Android and iOS portable devices to get its content and print it, as required by the user.

The device can also make hard copies for data like birthdays, Sudoku puzzles, and weather updates, among others.

HP has introduced two all-in-one printers with remote printing, each aimed at students going back to school or college. Both the Photosmart 7520 and Photosmart 6520 use HP’s ePrint technology for remotely printing from any web-connected device, Apple’s AirPrint through any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch; as well as printing locally through USB and Wi-Fi.

The 7520 touts a large 4.33-inch gesture-enabled touchscreen that can be used for several apps, including some from Crayola and Scholastic, and for printing web content without connecting to a PC. Five individual inks are used, which are claimed to be fade-resistant and produce prints at up to 600dpi at 14 pages per minute in black, or 10 in color. The flatbed scanner with automatic document feeder can capture images at up to 2,400 dpi.

The 6520 offers similar scanning, copying and printing features as the 7520, although is generally more compact. Printing slows to 12 pages per minute in black, or 8.5 in color; the flatbed scanner loses the feeder, and the touchscreen is a smaller 3.45 inches.

The Photosmart 6520 will go on sale later this month for $150, while the 7520 will be available in early September for $200.

The new PIXMA MP230, MG2250, MG3250 and MG4250 are optimized for printing documents from the internet and photo lab quality images at home.

The printers are the first PIXMA models to include, as standard, My Image Garden, a one-stop platform that combines all software currently available for Canon PIXMAprinters into a single, easy-to-use interface. The intuitive software also includes a range of new, advanced, user-friendly features, such as Automatic Suggestion, Automatic Layout and Face Recognition.

In addition, the printers are compatible with Print Your Days, Canon’s new Facebook app for PCs that has been designed to make it easy to send and print photos directly from Facebook to a Canon PIXMA printer without the need for any additional software. The app includes tools to allow users to automatically adjust photo layouts and create unique collage prints with up to five photos printed on a page. It also provides a range of style and editing options to add a further creative twist to photo printing.

Creative Park Premium [i], Canon’s free resource for downloading and printing cards, printable crafts and stationery, is also available through My Image Garden and features a new, easy-to-use photo selection process that enables users to display, download and print images through a single user interface. New content from the likes of National Geographic and NASA is now available, including beautiful photos that can be used to create calendars and a selection of printable crafting templates for building 3D space shuttles.

All four new PIXMA printers feature Auto Power Off and a new Auto Power On setting, which makes printing from a powered-down state quick and convenient. Documents or photos can also be sent from a wireless device and printed with ease without the need to manually switch the printer on beforehand, or off after printing. Quiet Mode, also available on the new PIXMA models, provides the option of a quieter printing experience.

PIXMA MP230

The new PIXMA MP230 is an affordable printer with print, scan and copy functions, perfect for first-time printer owners, students and young families looking for a home printer. With a stylish matte black design and compact footprint, the printer requires only minimal desk space and comes with print speeds of ISO ESAT 7.0ipm for mono and 4.8ipm for colour prints.

The MP230 produces high quality documents with 4800dpi print resolution using Canon’s FINEcartridges and also takes the economical XL cartridge size. The MP230 also offers ChromaLife100+ when used with genuine Canon paper and inks, for long-lasting, beautiful photos.

PIXMA MG2250

The new MG2250 is a competitively-priced printer with print, scan and copy functions, and features a seven-segment LCD display. Perfect for those looking for a compact and affordable printer for personal use, the MG2250 features Canon’s FastFront design, saving desk space and making it quick and easy to replace ink cartridges and paper.

The PIXMA MG2250 prints at ISO ESAT 8.4ipm in mono and 4.8ipm for colour images. It can print 10x15cm borderless photos in approximately 44 seconds. When copying or printing, users can also select to print either two or four pages on a single sheet of paper, reducing the total number of printed pages required for larger documents and helping to reduce overall paper consumption and ink costs.

The MG2250 takes Canon’s FINE cartridges as well as the economical XL cartridge size. It prints at up to 4800dpi resolution and also offers the ChromaLife100 system, producing quality, long-lasting photos.

PIXMA MG3250

The PIXMA MG3250 includes all the features of the MG2250 but offers faster print speeds of 9.2ipm for mono and 5.0ipm for colour images. The MG2250 also features built-in Wi-Fi and a free smartphone and tablet app for printing photos and scanning, to give greater printing flexibility around the home. For the environmentally-conscious user, the MG2250 also features Auto Duplex (double-sided) printing which can cut paper costs by up to 50%.

Canon has introduced three all-in-one Pixma printers, the MX372, the MX512 Wireless and the MX432 Wireless. The two wireless enabled devices both support AirPrint allowing users to print directly from an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. The printers are also accompanied by a companion mobile app, Canon Easy-PhotoPrint that is available for both iOS and Android based smartphones and tablets and now allows users to print PDFs created directly on the devices, not just photos as previously.

To aid user access to both the ink and paper, Canon has brought the new printers to market with a design it calls FastFront. Each printer utilizes the Canon’s two-cartridge ChromaLife 100 ink system3, which includes one black cartridge and one color cartridge. With the exposed user interface, users can scan or copy documents without the document blocking the control panel and buttons.

The Pixma MX512 and the MX432 wireless printers can deliver output at around 9.7 ipm for black-and-white documents and around 5.5 ipm for color prints. The Pixma MX372 printer provides output at approximately 8.7 ipm for black-and-white documents and around 5.0 ipm for color. All three of the printers can produce a 4×6-inch borderless photo in 46 seconds each.

The Canon Pixma MX512 wireless is retailing for $150, the Pixma MX432 wireless is going for $100, while the Pixma MX372 can be had for $80. The AirPrint function works out of the box with the iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPod touch (3rd generation and later) running using iOS 4.2 or later.

AirPrint has taken some time to gain traction. Initially support was limited to a small assortment of HP printers. HP gradually increased coverage, though, and eventually other printer makers joined in, including Brother, Canon, Epson, and Lexmark. The last in fact has just 11 AirPrint-ready printers, divided between its C-, X- and Pro-series models.

Canon started off the week by introducing a rare printer aimed squarely at pro photographers. The Pixma Pro-1 takes its looks from the DSLRs it’s intended to work with, like the EOS-1D X, and focuses on producing “gallery-quality” prints both for pros and for serious hobbyists. It carries 12 inks and can put out large A3+ sized images with a wider color range, at 16 bits per color channel, that more accurately reflects the lighting and scene from the DSLR itself.

The Pro-1 has a newer image detection system that more precisely tracks what inks are needed. A trio of color modes also help fine-tune the results, including an ICC Profiles mode to line up with specific paper types as well as modes that either have a deliberately neutral, linear mode or which emphasize blues and green to reportedly match what people saw. It can go so far as to adjust for the expected lighting a print will see, such as an art gallery.

Speed is also a focus: a full-quality, 1,200DPI print can finish in two minutes and 55 seconds, or less than half of the seven minutes and 55 seconds of the second-generation Pro 9500. Its tank is 2.5 times larger than the next closet option to help accommodate the higher output.

Canon has basic Ethernet printer sharing, but it pairs with an Easy-PhotoPrint Pro plugin that gives Photoshop and Canon’s own software the right color matches for ICC papers. The printer takes 20 sheets of photo-grade paper in a rear tray and has a manual tray at the front that can take both 14-inch wide photo paper and thicker stock.

Pricing is still an unknown for the US, although the Pro-1 should ship sometime in early November.

Canon has announced three new PIXMA printers, MG4120 Wireless Photo All-In-One (AIO), MG3120 Wireless Photo All-In-One, and the MG2120 Photo All-In-One printers. The MG4120 and MG3120 use 802.11n Wi-Fi for networking, while the MG2120 uses a USB connection. All three printers use Canon’s ChromaLife 100 ink system, which uses one black and one color cartridge. Canon claims the new ink system produces better yellows and reds, especially on plain paper. Each of the new printers can produce a full color 4×6 photo in approximately 44 seconds. The MG4120 and MG3120 also can duplex automatically.

Like the PIXMA MG5320, the MG4120 can preview photos stored on the Canon Image Gateway service or Google’s Picasa on its 2.4in. LCD screen and print them without being attached to a computer.

The printers come with Canon’s Movie Print software for capturing images from video captured on compatible HD Canon EOS and PowerShot Digital Cameras. Also included is Canon’s Easy-PhotoPrint EX software for editing and printing photos. An app for Android and iPhone (free, iTunes, Market) allows the MG4120 and MG3120 to print documents from compatible smartphones. The AIO machines can also scan documents and send them to smartphones as PDFs.

The three printers have the same maximum resolution, 4800×1200 dpi. Canon claims a print speed of approximately 9.9 ipm for black-and-white documents and 5.7 ipm for color for the PIXMA MG4120 Wireless Photo AIO. The PIXMA MG3120 Wireless Photo AIO prints black and white at approximately 9.2 ipm and 5.0 ipm for color. The PIXMA MG2120 Photo AIO produces approximatley 8.4 ipm for black and white and 4.8 ipm for color documents.

The Canon PIXMA MG4120 Wireless, MG3120 Wireless and MG2120 Photo All-in-One Printers will retail for an estimated $130, $80 and $70, respectively. The company did not say when the new printers would be available.

The update will add to the number of models accessible by the iOS feature AirPrint, which allows devices running iOS 4.2 or later the ability to print from selected apps and native programs to AirPrint-enabled HP printers.

HP ePrint wireless direct printing allows users to connect directly to supported printers from any Wi-Fi enabled mobile device using a peer-to-peer connection via a companion app. These connections are not only available to home or office networks but also public print centers such as FedEx Office. HP ePrint apps are available for iOS as well as Android and other mobile platforms.

The models that will be enabled in the update to gain ePrint wireless direct printing as well as AirPrint compatibility are the LaserJet Pro CP1025nw color printer and the LaserJet Pro M1217nfw MFP. Gaining AirPrint functionality only will be the LaserJet Pro P1102 and 1102w series, the LaserJet Pro P1560 and P1600 series, and the LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP 175nw model.

Its newest all-in-one photo printers with Wi-Fi, the MG5320, MG6220, and MG8220, can all now take print requests from an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch running iOS 4.2 or newer. The “majority” of Canon’s inkjets in the future will also get the wireless printing support, Canon said.

AirPrint has been slowly expanding over the past several months. After starting out with just a handful of HP models, it grew to include first more HP models and later Epson printers.

Printer support is still small relative to the wider industry and has left out Brother, Lexmark, and significant models even from those brands that already support AirPrint. Apple isn’t believed to be using exotic technology but is going against traditional approaches to networked printing.

Kodak has just introduced a new lineup of Hero all-in-one printers with wireless Google Cloud Print and Kodak Email Print support. At the same time, the company will bring the same ability to send documents and photos to the Hero printers and previous generation all-in-one printers, becoming the first company to reach the milestone. The flagship offering of the new range is the $250 Hero 9.1.

All the printers have Wi-Fi for connecting to home networks and each unit’s e-mail address can be shared with friends, clients or family to receive printed files or photos. Content from Gmail and Google Docs can be easily and quickly sent to the Heros, and users can send emails and attachments to from any email address thanks to Kodak’s Email Print Service. A Pic Flick App will also let users print photos right from their iOS, BlackBerry, and Android devices.

The 9.1 can print, copy, scan and fax. It sports a 4.3-inch color touchscreen, has a 30-page auto document feeder and automatic two-sided printing. A 40-sheet photo paper tray is also there, and separate from the paper tray.

The home office-oriented Office Hero 6.1 will scan, fax, copy and print and gets a 2.4-inch color display and control panel. It has a 200-page document tray, 35-page feeder and can perform all four functions on both sides of the page. It has a $200 price tag.

The Hero 7.1 prints, copies and scans, with navigation through a 3.5-inch color touchscreen. It also gets automatic two-sided printing and a separate, 40-sheet photo tray. It lists for $180.

The $130 Hero 5.1 loses the ability to fax documents and forgoes a touchscreen in favor of a 2.4-inch display. It retains two-sided printing, however.

The Hero 3.1 is smaller, and also scans, copies and prints. It has the same 2.4-inch display, but costs just $100.

Canon has just released two new photo printers with the PIXMA MG5320 all-in-one and the PIXMA iP4920 inkjet. The former lets those who have images uploaded to either the Canon Image Gateway or Picasa Web Albums can print them wirelessly using the PIXMA Cloud Link once the printer is set up on the Wi-Fi network. It supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) for quickly pairing with compatible devices.

The MG5320 has five ink tanks and can create a full color 4×6-inch borderless photo in about 20 seconds. It has a maximum resolution of 9600×2400. PC-less printing is made easier thanks to a center-mounted, three-inch LCD screen. It can also scan and fax documents.

The PIXMA iP4920 has similar features but doesn’t include Wi-Fi, all-in-one functionality or an LCD screen. It includes five individual fuel tanks, the same 9,600×2,400dpi color resolution and ability to print a 4×6-inch borderless color photo in 20 seconds.

The MG5320 sells for $150, while the iP4920 is priced at $100; neither models exact release date has been disclosed.

As of late January, this now includes Android and iOS devices, in addition to any other device with HTML5 support. The HP ePrint devices don’t require any physically connected PC or a special driver to support the wireless printing.

Before now, Cloud Print would work with most printers, but they had to be connected to a PC running the Chrome web browser to activate the service.

Google Cloud print is so far accessible through Gmail for Mobile, Google Docs for Mobile and Chrome OS, but will be added to third-party apps in the future, HP said.

Setting up the feature involves adding the compatible printer’s specific e-mail address to a Google account. ePrint-enabled printers are available in HP’s Photosmart, Officejet, Envy, and LaserJet Pro families.

Hewlett Packard has sent out a new firmware update on six of its business LaserJet models, enabling mobile print and additional built-in print options, and promises more models will be supported as well. The HP ePrint compatible printers can now have print jobs sent to them by any email-capable device. Additionally the firmware update will add additional printing options, called “business apps” by HP, that users can interact with directly on internet-connected printer models with no computer required.

The models affected by the first round of firmware updates are the HP LaserJet Pro models CM1415 MFP, CP1525, M150 MFP and CP1020. Also included are the HP Color LaserJet models CM4540 MFP and CP5525. Each printer will have its own unique e-mail address that compatible documents can be sent to and printed automatically. Compatible files include Microsoft Office documents, text files, PDFs, H L files and most common image types.

Users can control some of the particulars of a print job by using a web browser to log in to HP’s ePrint Center, but the company cautions that ePrint is for “convenience printing” only and that sending a print job from a local computer is the proper way to fine-tune settings for a print job.

The company is also soliciting ideas from users for additional “Business App” options that are controlled from the touchscreen of the ePrint-compatible printers, offering additional options such as stored standard documents that can be reprinted on command without involving a computer. Other print apps could offer scheduled printing of certain online content at a scheduled time, or for example allow users to schedule and then print movie tickets or airline boarding passes.

At present there are over 40 Business Apps listed on HP’s ePrint web site, ranging from Yahoo’s Daily Digest (news) to printout activity sheets for children from Sesame Street and Crayola, to crossword puzzles, MapQuest maps and printing of documents stored on Google Docs.

Business Apps and the ePrint service are both free of charge for compatible HP printer owners.

Epson today announced the Epson Stylus Pro 7890 (24-inch) and 9890 (44-inch) for photographers and proofing professionals, offering Epson’s latest technology achievements in the sub-$3,000 and $5,000 price categories. These new printers combine eight-color Epson UltraChrome K3 Vivid Magenta ink technology with auto-sharing Matte and Photo Black inks, and Epson’s MicroPiezo TFP print head to produce high quality prints at speeds about twice as fast as their predecessors -“ the Epson Stylus Pro 7880 and 9880.

The Epson Stylus Pro 7890 and 9890 offer the same leading technology found in the Epson Stylus Pro 900-series, including ePlaten automatic media loading, spindle-free roll media loading, a roll media tracking system, front control panel with 2.5-inch color LCD, rotary cutter, fabric catch bin, and robust printer stand. The printers also feature Epson’s latest ink-repelling coating and auto nozzle verification technologies to virtually eliminate clogged nozzles, and use nine individual high-capacity ink cartridges up to 700 ml. In addition, these new models are capable of handling virtually any media type, in roll or cut-sheet. Both models are available with an optional SpectroProofer spectrophotometer.

Key Features of the Epson Stylus Pro 890-Series

Epson MicroPiezo TFP Print Head: High precision eight-channel print head with auto sharing black ink channel produces variable-sized droplets as small as 3.5 picoliters to greatly decrease print times while optimizing photographic quality; latest ink repelling coating dramatically reduces nozzle clogging

AccuPhoto HD Screening: Advanced screening algorithm produces extremely fine blends and photographic transitions with accurate highlight-to-shadow details and ensures consistent color balance, resulting in prints with superior color and clarity and incredibly sharp text and line art

Epson UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta Ink: High density eight-color pigments with unique formulation of Magenta provides extremely vibrant blues and purples for an expanded color gamut; three-level black ink technology significantly improves gray balance while eliminating color casts and provides outstanding highlight-to-shadow grayscale accuracy for smoother tonal range

PreciseColor Manufacturing: Evaluates and adjusts each printer’s performance at the manufacturing stage, ensuring consistent color output from printer to printer and print to print, eliminating the need for internal calibration devices

ePlaten Media-Loading: Simplifies the roll and cut-sheet media loading process with automatic media loading, movement, skew adjustment, and tracking, including electronically controlled roll back tension and automatic roll media rewind upon release

SpectroProofer: Developed in partnership with X-Rite, the optional SpectroProofer is a high-performance, in-line spectrophotometer that, when driven by the latest front-end RIPs, can automate virtually any color management process in commercial or flexographic proofing workflows

Pricing and Availability

The Epson Stylus Pro 7890 and 9890 will be available in December 2010 through Epson Authorized Professional Imaging Resellers for an MSRP of $2,995 and $4,995 respectively. They are supported by a standard Epson Preferred Limited Warranty, a one-year program that includes toll-free advanced telephone access Monday through Friday and usually next-business-day on-site service.
HP has unveiled three new printers that have the company’s ePrint technology that lets them print images or documents sent by e-mail as well as AirPrint with iOS 4.2.

The most unusal model is the Photosmart eStation which ships with a detachable seven-inch touchscreen tablet. The all-in-one device can print, fax, scan and copy documents.

The Android tablet lets users print from the web using the ePrint feature. While the tablet is detached, others can still print locally from the printer’s redundant controls. The new flagship printer will have the ability to print at up to 9,600×2,400 and uses five ink cartridges. It is available today for $400.

OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus

The next new printer is the OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus, which improves upon the OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless it replaces with some new additions. It bumps up the touchscreen size from 3.45 inches to 4.3, while the HP ePrintCenter app store gets new content from partners such as Google Docs, Google Maps, Yahoo, PBS, Kraft.com and others.

Users can connect and print through USB, Ethernet, PictBridge and Wi-Fi. The scanner captures images at 4,800 PPI, the input tray can hold 250 sheets and there is a 50-sheet auto-document feeder. HP is already shipping the 8500 with a price range of $300 to $500 depending on options.

The last printer released was the HP’s Envy 100 e-All-In-One which sports mechanically retracting input and output paper trays. When not in use the printer is a black plastic rectangle. It can connect to the web to download apps, with users interfacing over a 3.45-inch touchscreen. Print speeds are rated at 30 PPM black or 25 PPM color, and there are two ink cartridges inside. It will ship on October 4 for $250.
