“M.O.J.O. is basically a supercharged smart phone with no screen that plugs into your flat screen TV to bring the living room experience to mobile gaming. M.O.J.O. is designed to interact seamlessly with our GameSmart controllers, mice, keyboards and headsets, in fact, the entire eco-system of gaming peripherals.” said Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc.

“We also want M.O.J.O. to be a truly open platform. People are already comfortable buying games from Google Play, Amazon, TegraZone or any other retailer of their choice. They play those games on their phones and tablets already, and with M.O.J.O., they will be able to play them in the living room at no additional cost. The same approach applies to movies, music and any other digital media. Our focus is on providing the best hardware configured for performance, not forcing people to buy content from us.”

M.O.J.O. is expected to include the Mad Catz C.T.R.L.R Wireless GamePad. A true, console quality controller, the C.T.R.L.R features both Bluetooth classic and Bluetooth Smart (4.0) technology which provides ultra-low latency, interference free gaming and exceptional battery life. In addition, the C.T.R.L.R features a ‘Mouse-Mode’ which allows gameer to enjoy many software titles originally designed for a touch interface in the comfort of their living room.

Universal Audio has started shipping the Apollo 16, a new audio interface for musicians. The gear supports throughput up to 24-bit/192kHz, and uses a 16×16 analog I/O arrangement. That includes support for for purely digital connection types however, such as FireWire and Thunderbolt. Two Apollo 16s can be cascaded via MADI, creating a unit with eight processors and 32×32 I/O.

The Apollo 16 costs $2,999. Thunderbolt support is Mac-only, and requires paying an extra $499 for the Thunderbolt Option Card. Accompanying the interface’s release is an update of the UAD Software, v7.0. The upgrade is needed for cascade support, and adds plugins for Ocean Way Studios, SPL TwinTube, and Sonnox Inflator.

The Console app has been redesigned with better visual feedback, and a new PT Mode attempts to simplify outboard hardware integration with Pro Tools. An added Virtual I/O feature permits real-time UAD processing of DAW content.

Asus has announced it will be producing two 4K-resolution monitors, and revealed details of one of them ahead of Computex 2013. The PQ321 True 4K UHD monitor measures 31.5 inches diagonally and has a native resolution of 3840×2160, and the company will be showing off an even bigger 39-inch version at the event.

The LED-backlit display panel uses IGZO, which allows for smaller film transistors than ones on amorphous silicon according to Hexus, allows for smaller pixels in the display than typically used. The PQ321 boasts 176-degree viewing angles, an 8ms gray-to-gray response time and a 350cd/m2 brightness, and supports 10-bit RGB. Video inputs include a DisplayPort and two HDMI ports, and audio is provided by a single line-in, a headphone socket, and 2-Watt stereo speakers.

The PQ321 will apparently be shipping in North America by the end of June, and though a price is not provided, it may end up being in the same $5,000 ballpark as IGZO panel producer Sharp’s own display.

AM3D Audio Enhancement Technology will enable wireless GameSmart headsets to deliver precision surround sound audio over Bluetooth. AM3D Virtual Surround Sound is based on binaural synthesis using head-related transfer functions (HRTF) to create virtual sound sources, providing an accurate audio sound stage during gaming.
With a 2.0 channel input (stereo or multi-channel down-mix), the signal is enhanced to produce a multi-channel-like surround sound signal, delivering profound surround sound perception and an enhanced center; optimum for gaming as well as movie and music playback.

Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. stated, “We believe the audio technology provided by AM3D will prove ideal for use in gaming applications, allowing us to deliver precision surround sound via Bluetooth on our GameSmart range of mobile accessories.”

“AM3D is pleased to partner with Mad Catz as both companies are very passionate about improving the gaming experience with superior sound,” stated Jacob N. Andersen, Senior Vice President, AM3D A/S.

Zagg has debuted a pair of new iPad mini Bluetooth keyboard accessories at CTIA Las Vegas. The ZaggKeys Cover for the iPad mini, pictured, is the latest in its iPad line of popular keyboard covers. According to the company, it is the thinnest Bluetooth keyboard accessory for the iPad mini available, measuring just 6.3mm (0.25-inch) thick. It also incorporates backlit keys with seven color options and three lighting levels.

The hinge on the ZaggKeys Cover allows users to position an iPad mini at multiple angles, as well as reverse the iPad mini for one-piece reading or for viewing movies and playing games. The inbuilt battery keeps the cover powered for up to three months of regular use before it needs to be recharged. It will be available in black and silver options for $100.

The ZaggKeys Folio is also aiming for the title of the thinnest folio keyboard cover available, at 6.9mm (0.27 inches) thickness. Like the ZaggKeys Cover, the Folio’s hinge also allows an iPad mini to be positioned in a wide range of angles and incorporates the same keyboard backlighting. Its inbuilt battery is also good for three months on a charge while it too will retail for $100 and will be available in black and white, with other colors arriving by fall.

In addition to featuring increase image accuracy and precision capture, the unit now comes bundled with NewSoft software for Macs, including Presto Pagemanager 9 for scanning images and doing OCR on the scanner as well as Presto BizCard Xpress business card-scanning software.

Both programs have been customized to include Kodak’s “Perfect Page” technology, allowing users to convert files to searchable PDFs, emails, printed copies, or store documents locally. Scans can also be synced to Google Docs or Evernote.

The i940 itself features simultaneous creation of color or B&W versions of scanned documents, and includes auto-cropping, de-skewing, image rotation, auto-brightness and auto-contrast. The unit can hold up to 20 documents at a time using its automatic document feeder. It can capture images at 20 pages per minute (ppm) or up to 40 ppm in B&W or grayscale mode. The unit can work on USB power only, making it usable as a portable scanner — but reduces operations to a maximum of 8ppm at 200 dpi.

The US version of the i940 for Mac users is sold as the i940M in North America, and retails for $499. It works with OS X 10.6 and higher. The European version sells for €440 ($565).

Bose says the AE2w will work up to 30 feet away from the device that is paired with, while its built-in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are good for up to 200 hours of stand-by time, or up to 7 hours on the go. The AE2w’s can also be paired with up two devices simultaneously, allowing a user to watch a movie on their tablet, while being able to interrupt the session and take a call at the same time. The Bluetooth control module also includes LED and audio indicators to provide information on power, battery life and Bluetooth connections.

The Bose AE2w Bluetooth headphones are retailing for $250 and can be purchased directly through its online store. A limited offer of free shipping is currently available at the time of writing.

First announced at CES 2011, the Express Dock was originally expected to be launched in September 2012. However, various setbacks and revisions continually pushed this date back until Belkin finally began accepting pre-orders this past February.

The final revision is being sold for $300 and features eight ports, one FireWire 800, one Gigabit Ethernet, three USB 3.0, one 3.5mm audio-in, one 3.5mm audio out, and one Thunderbolt port, that can simultaneously be connected to a computer through a single Thunderbolt cable.

Wacom has revised its Cintiq 22HD display-based input device to include touch controls. The Cintiq 22HD touch, much like the larger Cintiq 24HD touch, introduces multitouch to the stylus-based drawing surface, allowing artists and designers to use gestures for rotating canvases, zooming and panning their work.

Primarily using a 21.5-inch full HD display on an ergonomic rotating stand that can sit between a 10-degree and 65-degree incline for comfort, the Cintiq 22HD provides 16 customizable shortcut keys dubbed ExpressKeys, as well as user-defined Touch Strips on the back of display for other functions. The stylus retains its 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity, while the overall weight of the system has been reduced from 33.7 pounds to 18.5 pounds with the stand, 14.7 pounds without.

Just as adding multi-touch capabilities to the Cintiq 24HD added a hefty margin to the price, the Cintiq 22HD touch costs $2,500, a $500 premium on the non-touch version. Wacom will start shipping the Cintiq 22HD touch in May.

The previous Water 2.0 models were already welcomed with warm hands into the market, and now Thermaltake has released its new revision, the Water 3.0. The Water 3.0 water cooling kits will come in three versions: the Water 3.0 Extreme, the Water 3.0 PRO, and the Water 3.0 Performer.

The Water 3.0 Performer is the entry level water Cooler. It has a simple thin 120 mm radiator and two fans. Due to this, it should fit in almost any enclosure.

The Water 3.0 PRO has a 120 mm radiator, but one that is much thicker at 49 mm. It is almost twice as thick as the Water 3.0 Performer. The purpose of it is to have good performance. It ships with two fans out of the box.

Orb Audio announced today the launch of an all-new Mini-T, the company’s micro-sized Class T amplifier designed for use with computers, televisions, iPods and most mobile devices. The new Mini-T is even smaller than the original Mini-T, and features a new glossy black cabinet, improved signal path design, and the first dedicated subwoofer output available in the device’s class.

The new Mini-T allows consumers to use home speakers instead of resorting to cheaply designed self-powered speakers. The device can be paired with speakers already found in the consumer’s home, or can also be combined with Orb Audio’s Mod1 and Mod2 speakers.

The amplifier delivers 15W per channel, at a 0.04 percent distortion. Efficiency hits 88 percent, with a dynamic range of 102dB.

Mini-T version 2 amplifiers are available as a standalone product for $69. The Mini-T can also be purchased in a package with two Orb Mod1 speakers for $299.

TomTom has updated one range of its dedicated GPS devices, and revealed a new line of GPS sports watches. The TomTom GO adds a new interactive map as well as more information for drivers, while the TomTom Runner and Multi-Sport marks a departure by the company from its previous Nike-branded efforts.

TomTom Go now consists of a simplified range of devices, with a choice of 4.3-inch, 5-inch, and 6-inch models. An interactive map feature along with 3D Maps allows for zooming in and selecting places to explore on the map itself, with a tap on the map providing a route instantly. Lifetime updates for TomTom Traffic will provide details of where delays start, with users able to get updates by choosing between two device options: devices that connect via Bluetooth to a smartphone and uses a data plan, or an always-connected device with no further data charges. For the life of the device, drivers can download at least four full updates of the map to the GPS every year, while customers will also receive a three-month trial of a speed camera warning system.

The new sports watches provide a number of graphical training modes to use on the display. A race mode will allow the user to compete against a previous or best time over a route, a goal mode will keep counting down until the wearer reaches a distance, time, or calorie usage target, and the “Zone” mode will set a pace or heart rate as a target to stay above, and provides a graph of that metric over time. The PA249Q ProArt Series LCD monitor has been pre-calibrated the display, which offers native 99 percent Adobe Wide Gamut RGB support for optimal color accuracy. The display also uses Advanced High-Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS) for enhanced brightness and vibrancy along with 178-degree wide viewing angles.

The PA249Q ProArt Series monitor also offers 100 percent sRGB support as well as support for 120 percent NTSC. In addition, the PA249Q supports 10-bit ‘deep color’ that Asus says offers more natural transitions between different hues. The PA249Q also produces brightness rated at 350cd/m² and an 80,000,000:1 contrast ratio for better image contrast.

Connectivty includes a DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-D and D-Sub ports, while it can also support two video inputs simultaneously utilizing a picture-in-picture mode. The function allows the second image to be displayed in one portion of the display, or in side-by-side split. The PA249Q also incorporates a four-port USB 3.0 hub for pass-through connectivity, while it is also mounted on a versatile stand with full tilt, swivel, pivot and height adjustment.

The Asus PA249Q ProArt Series will go on sale next month, with pricing to be announced.

Headset manufacturer Jabra has announced the Jabra Motion series which includes the Jabra Motion and Jabra Motion UC, Unified Communcation-based headsets aimed at the rapidly growing Mobile Worker workforce. The iOS- and Android-compatible wireless headset is shipping the second quarter of this year.

With a combination of motion sensors and microphones, the Jabra Motion automatically adapts to the sound environment and adjusts to ensure optimal and clear sound throughout a conversation, whether in a noisy office or on the road. The headset registers any movement instantly; when a user picks up the handset, the call is answered simultaneously. Similarly, when the wearer start moving, the speaker volume is automatically adjusted. When put down upon completion of the call, the device powers down.

Supplementing the Jabra Motion is the Bluetooth Jabra Speak 510 Bluetooth speaker set. The speaker is designed for individual or small office use, and supplements a mobile device’s existing speaker/microphone combination for clear communications and collaboration.

The Jabra Motion earpiece is expected to retail for $129. The Jabra Speak 510 will sell for $179. Both the Jabra Motion and Jabra Speak 510 Bluetooth speaker are expected at retail in April.

Google has created a new video showing off the user interface of the Google Glass headset. The video belwo was relased at the same time as Google opens up its Glass pre-orders to non-developers, allowing the Explorer edition of the headset to be ordered by “bold, creative individuals.”

The new video shows a more refined UI, this time located in the top right of the image as a translucent image. Users are shown taking part in various activities, taking images, video, and using Google Now-style notifications and cards. The phrase “OK Glass” appears to act as a keyword for Glass to listen to the user and follow commands, similar to how Kinect uses the term “Xbox,” while the name “Google” is being used for web searches. Towards the end, a non-verbal operation of the Glass is shown, demonstrating that it will still accept non-vocal instruction.

The expanded pre-orders takes the form of a competition, where prospective users have to explain how they would use Google Glass through social media. Using Google+ or Twitter and using the hashtab #ifihadglass, entrants can use up to 50 words, five images, and a 15-second video clip to show off their plans, though it is only open to US residents aged 18 or over. A total of 8,000 people will be invited to special events in mid-to-late March and will be given the option of purchasing the Explorer edition, something that cost the original registrants $1,500 for the privilege.

Square has announced the Business in a Box, a new hardware option for retailers. The system includes a cash drawer, a Square card reader, and a WindFall iPad stand, meant to hold an iPad running the Square Register app.

Square’s goal is to have the combination be able to handle all major POS tasks, including creating custom inventories and running analytics.

However right now there is one major pieces missing – hardcopy receipts. By default, receipts must be emailed to customers; adding a receipt printer costs another $300.

For all transactions Square charges businesses a 2.75 percent rate per swipe, or alternately a flat $275 fee per month.
