Canon finished out CP+ with  announcements for six more new PowerShot A-series cameras to boost its entry level. At the top, the A4000 IS and A3400 IS each have firsts: the A4000 IS has a long 8X zoom, while the similar-resolution A3400 has a 5X zoom but is the first A-series with a touchscreen that can be used to focus or take the shot. These and the other new cameras in the line all have 16-megapixel sensors and 720p video support.

In the mid-tier, the A2400 IS and A2300 have 5X zoom and 2.7-inch LCDs; as suggested by names, only the A2400 IS of the two has image stabilization. Beginners can pick the A1300 or A810; they have the same lenses and LCDs but use AA batteries instead of lithium-ion packs. The core difference is an optical viewfinder on the A1300.

Canon is shipping the highest-end cameras first, starting with the A4000 IS this month for $200. The A2300, A2400 IS, and A3400 IS come in March for $150, $160, and $180. Shoppers for the most affordable cameras have to wait until April, when the A810 will cost $110 and the A1300 will be $120.
