Black-ish To Return For A Fifth Season On ABC

ABC has renewed its popular family comedy Black-ish for a fifth season. The pickup was never in question — Black-ish is one of ABC’s strongest and most acclaimed comedies, and it comes from sister studio ABC Studios. The only question about its future was the extent of creator Kenya Barris’ involvement as he has been in discussions about exiting his overall deal at the studio.

Created, executive produced and directed by Barris, Black-ish tells the story of the Johnsons—an affluent African-American family struggling to raise their kids in the largely white culture of well-to-do suburbia.

The critically praised show, known for tackling hot-button issues such as police brutality, Black Lives Matter and the N-word, has been nominated for seven Primetime Emmys, including two for outstanding comedy series, along with multiple Golden Globe noms, including a best actress win for Tracee Ellis Ross, and a TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy.

Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson as Dre, Ross as Rainbow, Yara Shahidi as Zoey, Marcus Scribner as Andre Jr., Miles Brown as Jack, Marsai Martin as Diane, Jenifer Lewis as Ruby, and Laurence Fishburne as Pops.
