Atlantean Queen Is Getting Her Own DC Comics Series

After years spent by the side of Aquaman, Mera is finally getting her very own series with Mera: Queen of Atlantis. The new six-issue limited series will be written by Aquaman writer Dan Abnett, with Lan Medina providing art. Nicola Scott will provide the cover for the first issue, with a variant coming from Stanley “Artgerm” Lau.

Mera: Queen of Atlantis seems to spin out of the current ongoing story line in Aquaman that has seen the longtime King of Atlantis ousted from power. While Arthur Curry is believed dead by the public and stuck inside Atlantis, Mera has remained on the surface where she joined the Justice League.

According to the first issue’s synopsis, she will deal with the surface world and become Queen of Atlantis. The villainous Ocean Master is also set to return, who hasn’t been seen since the beginning of the Rebirth title from last year. The full synopsis can be read below:

As the brutal Atlantean Civil War rages, Mera must keep the peace between the surface world and Atlantis as its newly anointed queen in exile. But when Aquaman’s brother Orm, a.k.a. Ocean Master, learns of his homeland’s fate, he’ll stop at nothing to return to Atlantis as its king and savior!

Mera: Queen of Atlantis #1 is set to hit shelves on Feb. 28, 2018.
