Asus has started shipping its 7-inch MeMO Pad for just $149. The device takes many of its design cues from its stable mate, the Asus Nexus 7, while it also retains the 16GB of on board storage in that device. While the Nexus 7 is limited to either 16GB or 32GB of storage, the Asus MeMO Pad also supports microSD cards up to 32GB.

To help get its price point down, Asus has dropped some sensors while also swapping out the Tegra 3 quad-core CPU found in the Nexus 7. Instead, the MeMO Pad is powered by a dual-core VIA WM8950 dual-core chip. Its 7-inch display has a resolution of 1024×600 with a brightness of 350 nits while it also supports 10-point multi-touch.

Asus says that its 16Wh 4270mAh battery will provide up to 7 hours of battery life. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n as well as a micro-USB port for charging and transferring files. The MeMO Pad runs Android 4.1 ‘Jelly Bean’ and also comes with 5GB of complimentary Asus WebStorage. The device is available now through a number of retailers including Amazon, GameStop and Frys Electronics in a range of colors including grey, pink and white.
