Acer has announced the availability of the Aspire S5 ultrabook in the US. It measures 0.44 inches at its thinnest point, 0.59 inches at its thickest, and weighs 2.65 lbs. The new line has been bolstered with the Ivy Bridge line of Intel processors. In addition, the Aspire S3 has been refreshed with a faster processor and a champagne case finish as well.

The 13.3-inch S5 includes a Ivy Bridge Intel Core i5-3317U processor running at a max speed of 3.0GHz, and a 128GB SSD. A magnetic flip-down port just below the hinge reveals the two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI with HDCP support, and a single Thunderbolt port. The 1366×768 display is driven by Intel HD 4000 graphics. A 1.3MP HD webcam capable of 24fps capture and a combination headphone/microphone port round out the input capabilities of the machine. Market release is expected the last week of June with a MSRP of $1,000.

Acer’s first ultrabook entry, the S3, has been upgraded as well, with an Ivy Bridge i5 processor. The S3 now includes a 500GB hard drive coupled with a 20GB SSD, or a 128 GB SSD in place of the 500GB hard drive and smaller SSD. The enhanced S3 is available the week of June 18 for prices between $800 and $900 depending on configuration.
