ArcSoft Debuts Perfect365 – Makeover for Portraits

Photo-enhancement software maker ArcSoft has made its beauty and glamour software Perfect365 available for Mac, having already launched the application for Windows in early November and an iOS version two weeks ago. The program detects faces and softens skin variations, lets photographers retouch blemishes and under-eye circles, removes shine and whitens teeth along with other enhancements aimed at female portraiture.

In addition, the program acts as a virtual makeup artist, letting artists add and adjust hues on makeup for the face, lips and eyes. The program can even change contact lens or eye colors. The face detection can “see” up to 20 faces and automatically map the nose, eyes and lips of models. Features can also be manually mapped for off-center or three-quarter profile pictures, allowing for further tweaks such as smile enhancement, bridge and nose (“T-Zone”) enhancement and cheek lifting.

The program also allows the finished product to be uploaded to sharing networks such as Facebook, Flickr and Twitter. The basic program is free, but a “Pro” version at $40 adds the ability to save results in the original resolution (the free version is limited to 1280×800 at 72dpi — fine for web use but unacceptably low for print). The Pro version also allows high-quality prints and posters from third-party printing companies.

Perfect365 can be downloaded for free for Mac and Windows from the company’s website. The iOS versions are priced at $2 for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and $5 for the iPad version.
