Apple Updates iBooks to Version 1.2, Introduces Collections, Illustrated Titles

Apple has pushed out a new version of iBooks, 1.2. The app’s primary upgrade is support for fully illustrated books from the iBookstore, where previously titles were limited to inline images. Also new is the expected concept of Collections, which allows grouping books or PDFs together for easier browsing.

Notes and PDF files — but not books — can now be sent to a printer via AirPrint. Reading has been improved through automatic hyphenation, which requires iOS 4.2 but allows more words to fit on a page. iBooks is free from the App Store, and a universal download for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
