Late on Thursday, Apple quietly updated its Mac App Store listings for Final Cut Pro X and its subsidiary programs — Motion and Compressor — to add support for 4K exporting to Apple’s own devices that can display UHD files, such as the iMac line. The update also introduces new sharing options along the same lines, adding the fourth-generation Apple TV, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Pro, and support for multiple YouTube accounts to the Sharing window’s options. The update also adds a new AVC import option, and offers numerous bug fixes.

The new import update allows Canon’s XF-AVC format, which is used by the company’s C300 Mark II camera, to be brought into Final Cut Pro X, which is now at version 10.2.3. This is the first update to FCP X since last April, and also adds improved speed when opening libraries on a SAN, and a new Customizable Default Effect which lets users assign a keyboard shortcut to both an audio and video effect.

According to the release notes, the new version of FCP also fixes the following bugs: it resolves an issue that could affect the timecode display in the Dashboard on OS X El Capitan; resolves an issue in which a disabled video effect could appear as Missing Effect when opening the project, or when sharing to Compressor; addresses an issue in which black frames could appear in imported iPhone video clips that were trimmed on iPhone; fixes an issue that could cause the playhead to jump ahead when editing short titles; fixes an issue that could cause the timeline to stop playback when switching views in the Browser; fixes an issue in which points on a Bezier shape could incorrectly switch from Linear to Smooth; and fixes an issue in which some objects within Motion templates render with soft edges.

Motion, the graphics and animation part of the FCP suite, has been updated to v5.2.3 and includes better handling of Photoshop files, as well as including the ability to search a user’s Photos library. It too received a bevy of bug fixes, including improving stability when using the Undo command after ungrouping a parent group; correctly saving percentage-based parameters in the Checkerboard generator after closing and reopening a project; correctly saving the preview movie for Motion templates created in German, Japanese, and Chinese.

Motion also gains the relevant bug fixes added to FCP, including the Bezier shape issue, the Motion template “soft edge” rendering, and adding the sharing options mentioned above. Likewise, the packaging and exporting app Compressor gained the 4K export capabilities from FCP in its update, which puts it at version 4.2.2. The update resolves an issue where a closed caption file error would pop up when creating iTunes Store Packages, and also fixes some graphics bugs in the navigation window on installs running on OS X El Capitan.

The updates for all three programs are free for existing users. Final Cut Pro X is priced at $300 for new purchasers, while Motion and Compressor are both priced at $50. All three are available exclusively from the Mac App Store.
